Answers:
When she wakes up from naps take her outside.

In the morning, first thing take her out. She should get the idea that she will go out right away in the morning.

Take her out right before you go to bed. She will get used to that too.

It takes time and patience.
Are you sure you are spending enough time with her? They need lots of love and attention.

A crate or cage or somewhere you can block off is a good idea. They don't like to go in the areas they sleep.
You need a crate to keep it in for a week or so. They will not go where they sleep and you can teach them that the only time to go is when they are let outside.
what we had to do with our dog is well, we kept her on her leash and attached her leash to me so she was with us all the time! that way she couldnt run off and pee or poop when were not seeing her. then when we see her do it we spray her in the mouth with "bitter apple spray" (which u can find at pet supplies stores) and we tell her NO! and then we take her and tell her go "potty outside!" and take her out. it is really annoying to do at first but it is well worth it! I also suggest crating your dong when your not home. it seems mean but it will keep your house clean! once your dog gets trained you can stop doing this. get as big of a crate as you can find (or afford) and put some newspaper in it and one of her toys. you can do this when your not home or at night if she doesnt sleep with you. if she sleeps with you make sure you sleep with your door shut that way if she gets up in the night she wont run out and pee all over the house! then your parents wont get as mad! It is a lot of work and I know its hard but its well worth it-- especially if you have to sell your dog if she doesnt get trained!
Crate training is the best way to train a dog. What you need to do is get a crate that is just big enough for the puppy to lay down in. When you go to be at night put the puppy in the crate and ignore it completely when it cries. As soon as you get up in the morning, BEFORE you even go potty, let the dog out. Stay with the puppy for about 10 mins, Watch every move and praise when they potty. Pick a word like, go potty, or be a good dog. Something they will soon learn means, go potty. Then take the puppy back inside and wait about 15 mins, then play with the puppy. Whenever a play session is done, take the puppy outside again. If you are going to leave the house for any period of time, crate the puppy. Also, do not let the puppy out of your sight when not in the crate. Be sure to keep a close watch and if you see it sniffing around, go outside again. Best of luck to you!
I think the problem is the "trying" It is a "must"
You MUST take out when she wakes up from a nap
You MUST take her out after she has eaten
You MUST taker her out when she starts sniffing around looking for somewhere to wee/poo
You MUST clean up her accidents properly
You MUST catch her in the act, say NO and take her outside
You MUST praise her when she wees/poos outside
You MUST stay outside with her until she wees/poos
You MUST never rub her nose in it, show a discovered accident. She will have no idea what you are on about.
You MUST take this responsibility
You MUST confine her to a room over night so she doesnt have the whole house to wee/poo in.

I rescued a nearly 5 month old dog from the shelter. She was house tained within a week
I am still working on training mine ( I've had him for 2 weeks). Taking him out often is a good start. Everyone I have talked to swears by create training. You are supposed to feed them , leave the food down for 15 min. then take it up. ( no matter if they have eaten it all or none of it. They will eat better next time) This helps with predicting when they might go. Put him in the crate when you can't watch every move he makes. look up crate training your dog online you should be able to find enough to get you started. I hope this helps and good luck.
dogs cant control their pee an poop till around 16 wks. I am currently housebreaking a pup and this milestone seems to make a huge difference. The other thing is to only feed her @ certain times. Then take her out a few minutes after she eats. Whe she does go outside reward her w/ lots of attention and a treat. (have a party). good luck
Just for some background, I am a former AKC kennel owner (until I got a divorce :P), professional obedience, tracking, and protection trainer, and show handler with multiple AKC obedience titles to my dogs' credit. I am a founding member, certified Canine Behaviorist, and former Chairman of the National Association of Professional Canine Trainers and Handlers (NAPCaTH). I'm not just spouting something I heard from Uncle Jake or saw on "The Dog Whisperer". (shudder) The time it takes to housebreak a puppy (older than 6 weeks) in my home is 2-5 days. If it's taking longer than that then YOU are doing something wrong.

I'm going to use the term "poo" to cover both urine and feces.

Here is the recipe for success:

#1 Get on a schedule. - Bring him outside often (about every 2-4 hours) for the first week or so. If you can't dedicate yourself to going outside with your puppy for 15 minutes every 4 hours for a few days then please take the puppy to a shelter and get a cat.

#2 Praise early, praise often. - Make a BIG pleasant deal about what a wonderful thing it is that he has done his business outside **as soon** as he has done so. If you wait until a puppy wanders up to you to praise him, then he thinks you are praising him for coming to you and has forgotten all about the big stinky load he dropped a few minutes before. Your praise to correction ratio should be about 20:1. That means that you should be telling him that he is good for doing all kinds of little things about 20 times more often than you are scolding him for doing something wrong. This will teach him very quickly the boundaries of what is acceptable behavior and what is not.

#3 DO NOT RUB THE DOG'S NOSE IN POO! A dog has no way of getting the poo off of his nose except by licking it off. If he does this then before you know it, you have a poo eating dog on your hands b/c he has developed a taste for it! Instead, remember that a dog's nose is at least 150 times more powerful than your own (depending upon the breed) and use that to your advantage. Make the dog down-stay (lay down and stay there) in position for 1 minute per month of age very near but not in the poo. If your dog is 3 months old, then he stays with his nose next to the poo for 3 minutes while you clean it up. He will very soon associate pooing in the house with having to lay still for (what seems like to a puppy) a VERY long time and will instead wait for his next regularly scheduled potty break.

#4 Be consistent. The pup needs to know that if he poos in the house that there are consequences and, more importantly, that if he does it outside that there will be praise.

#5 NEVER call a dog to you for punishment. When you find the dog has dropped a load, go get him, pull him carefully but firmly to the site of the poo, and then scold him. If you call a dog to you for punishment then you are, in the dog's mind, punishing him for coming to you when you call him b/c that's the last thing he did before you lit into him with your loud, scolding mommy (or daddy) voice. If the dog's nose is filled with the aroma of his own poo, then it's pretty clear to him what you are bent out of shape about. If I had a dollar for every time someone has called me up and can't figure out why their dog doesn't come when he's called but yet they call the dog before they punish him, I'd be a VERY rich man. :D

The most important thing to remember with canine behavior:
Dogs LOVE praise. They LIVE for praise. If your pup knows that he will be praised for good behavior then he will do absolutely ANYTHING that will earn him "luvins".

Good luck and please feel free to email me if you have any further questions.

HI Smurf, You don't say what breed your pup is? You need to take her out very 2hrs. since she is sooo behind in her potty training.Stay outside with her until you know she is done.Tell her she is a good girl everytime she potties outside. If she has an accident,DON'T SCOLD HER,just take her outside, and let her know that this is where she gos potty.Besides telling her she is a good girl, give her alittle treat so she knows she did something right.Always take her out before bed time.If you hear her in the nite, get up and see if she needs to go potty.Keep this up for 3-4weeks and she should be fine.Remember, always praise her for doing something right.Never scold or yell at her.It confussion her.. Have fun and love her to death.. A Friend..
