Answers:
Spraying stuff on hour hands ..uhhuh..well.and how long do you keep up smelling repulsive?

Ignoring them?? SO when do they learn?

I have seen some strange suggestions on thie board

Puppies bite - that is how dogs and puppies play with each other. He thinks he is playing with you by mock fighting. Its a dog's favorite game - watch two good dog buddies ripping tearing rolling - and diving at each other and grabbing without puncturing.

You have to DO something about it.

Now what is really really neat is your puppy came pre-programmed to understand certain behavior as disapproval and approval. In dog language, behavior is communication.

In a group of dogs, if he nipped the leader and the leader was not amused, they would knock him over, grab the skin on his neck or the side of his face and pinch it without breaking the skin, and growl.

So do what they would do. That is something a dog understands instinctively. Lot of theories out there about yelping in pain and pushing him away (duh.that is what the dog who LOST the mock fight does and the winner is the boss now) or all this other stuff - but your puppy didn't read those books!
Step One: Learn to use your voice. Mot people either let their voice slide up in register or they sound futile and weak. You want to deepen your voice and sound like a drill sergeant. The word NO is basic to doggy manners (and people too.). The deep sound mimics the rumble/growl of the top dog.

Step Two: Do what the leader would does physically (well, mimic it - biting him wouldn't be fun.)

When he nips at you, roar NO in a deep voice, grab him by the collar or back of the neck, push him down and hold him on the ground and as you are doing that and snap your fingers on the end of his nose or slap his nose with your fingers. While you pin him down and get his nose, lean over him and keep saying BAD BAD BAD - do NOT let your voice slide up, make it deep.

Step Three: when you let him up, you relax you voice and say "okay, now be nice" and let him come back over and get petted. (That is the postive part.) The more he settles down and gets petted without nipping, the happier your voice gets.

Get after him about EVERY SINGLE TIME - you must be 100% consistent.

Now when he comes over and snuggles and licks and doesn't nip, he always gets "What a sweetie", rub, pet, cuddle. And guess what? That is exactly how dogs express approval of each other!
buy her lots of chewing toys. you can't help it, it's the teething problem. it will be over in a couple of months. don't worry :)
Keep lots of toys around. When you are playing with your puppy, never use your hands, just toys. When she puts her teeth on you, yelp loudly, like another pup would, and immediatly give her a toy to chew. Then praise her for chewing on the toy. Another thing to try is when she bites. Immediately get up and end the play session. Just walk away and ignore her.
say "no bite" when they bite. slap her lightly. bite your puppy, see how she feels to get bit!
Well, I have had many puppy's and yes you can train them to stop bitting. Whenever they bite you grab there mouth (not hard though) and look him or her in the eyes and say NO!
i`d say take her to a school and have her trained and also buy her some chew toys it will really help her and if it does not work then i think the best think to do is to try and trian her your self
when she does, grab her muzzle and tell her NO. make her look you in the eye, and smack your hand to your thigh. (she should get scared by the noise, so she knows not to)
biting is part of being a puppy, and it might not work. sometimes you got to put up with the TEETHING stage of puppyhood.
My dog was a biting maniac when he was a puppy. I sat with him one day and every time he bit me I tapped his nose.it took about 30 times but he finally stopped biting me. Unfortunately for my husband I was the only one he stopped biting. I didn't tap hard because that would be wrong but he didn't like it. If you don't like the tapping thing then maybe you could do the same thing on the nose with a rolled up paper or something. The only thing I recommend is that everyone sits with him one at a time and does it because my dog is 8 years old now and still bites my husband and never bites me.
its called teething and they r growin the teeth larger.buy lots of chew toys and it will be over before u know it
whenever your dog starts biting your arm or what ever put a toy in front of its mouth than it will bite dat after a while it will get used to biting its toy not U LOL

gud luk it will work
Hit her on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. I do that. Don't worry, she'll still love you.
Make sure she has lots of chew toys.

When she bites say NO.firmly, but don't yell..my dog really understands "Be Nice".immediately thereafter give her a chew toy and praise her for using that instead..pups respond much better to positive re-inforcement that punishment.

I cannot stress enough that you MUST be consistent. Don't let her get away with it some times becasue at that point she is being gentle and cute..you'll just confuse her. Everyone in your family must follow the same routine as well. When you have visitors please make sure you stress to them that you don't allow hand wrestling.
Is the puppy actually biting you, or chewing on things you don't want her to?

For biting at people, this is something that will need to be worked on and you have to be consistent with it. Not addressing the issue properly, even one time, sends mixed signals and confuses your puppy about what you expcect from her as far as behavior goes.

The following method was taught to us by our trainer and also recommended by out vet. It's been very effective and we have a Border Collie puppy, which are known for nipping as it's part of their herding instinct.

When the puppy bites at you, gently grab the scruff of the back of his neck, shake lightly and say "No Bite". This is the same method a mother dog uses to discipline her puppies and will get your puppies attention. Mom did this to your puppy and you are communicating with your puppy in a way HE understands. When your puppy releases the bite, praise the puppy for the good behavior. It's also a good idea to offer the puppy acceptable things to bite such as a toy. Your puppy needs to learn what is appropriate.

Your puppy just sees you as a litter playmate and simply needs to be taught that biting you is not appropriate. Another thing we did (also suggested by the vet and trainer) was to work on reducing the pressure of the bite. Your puppy doesn't understand that you are getting hurt. A high pitch "ow,ow,ow" or "ouch" will sound very much like her litter mates, who used the same sound to tell her if she hurt them. When we did this with our puppy, she immediately stopped and the next attempt at play biting was far more gentle. If you choose to do this, you would eventually work into the "no bite" method explained above.

Good Luck!
You cant stop the puppy from biting.

She is teething and will be for about another year, then the chewing furniture and things begin.

All the joys of puppies i am afraid.

Imagine a child stages in life and the dogs go through the same.
try making a yelping noise, because when they're puppies in the litter that's how they know when they're playing too rough, it's important that the training is consistent, and they should know by 6-8 months that it's not remotely ok to even let their teeth tough skin
form a mouth with your hand and simulate a bite on the neck pinning the puppy down on its side. this is what the parent would do. add along with that, a firm "NO!".

you have to completely dominate the puppy. you aren't physically harming the puppy nor are you hurting its feelings. you are demanding respect and thats all.

dont listen to people telling you to yelp. they are idiots. you want to take the parent role in this situation not the role of another puppy. you want respect not pity. and you dont want to reward biting with a toy. rewards are for good behaviour not bad behaviour.
When she bites, flick her in the nose, and say no, firmly.
My dog did the same thing, luckily she is small. When she tried to bite, we would just put our fingers around her muzzle, look her right in the eyes, and tell her "no bite", and she learned she wasn't allowed to bite people. If your dog is big, then smack it on the nose when it tries to bite and tell it "no bite", and if it continues, smack harder.

how can i train my Labrador easily housebroken .?

Answers:
It is a matter of training YOU to let the dog out enough so that it does it's business outside. But everytime you take him out, you should gently reinforce the good behaviour. When he pees, you say "Good BOY! You PEED outside!" and pat him and make a short fuss over it. The same for when he defecates.

A dog always wants to please. When he learns that this behaviour pleases you, he will continue to do it.

If he slips up and goes in the house, then saying in a sad voice "No. That was bad!" and looking and sounding sad at him will reinforce that this is unacceptable behaviour.

You don't want to ever hit a dog, because your dog may then turn out angry and distrustful.
crate train him/her first introduce the crate as a safe fun place get him/her into the crate by throwing treats in farther and father into the crate till there in then start to close the door and then when you take her/him out bring them right to the designated potty area DO NOT play with them before or they will associate that potty spot with fun rather just turn your head and wait once they go give LOTS of praise.
Depending on your dogs age the approach to housebreaking will change. If your Lab is a pup, use PeePads moving them slowly toward the door each day. Soon the pup will go to the door and you will know he needs to go out. If it is an older dog. You must be vigilant in paying attention to him. Use a clicker and bite size treats to get him to signal you when he needs to go out.
try obedience classes so YOU can learn how to train a dog.

House training involved appropriate (not violent) punishment when the dog goes in the house, but it also involved PRAISE when the dog goes where he is supposed to go. BOTH aspects need to be provided EVERY TIME - consistent, persistent training is what a dog needs.

how can i train my dog?

Answers:
Please clarify what it is you want your dog to do.

If you are looking for general obedience it is a good idea to join a class. If that is completely out of the question you could find info on dog training at the library or the internet, but I really do recommend a class as it helps provide socialization and an experienced trainer can help identify when you are making mistakes and how to correct them.

I recommend positive reinforcement methods over harsher methods.

Good luck!
go to petsmart and they have a great training place i went to and had a great time the trainer is so nice it worked to so go it is in bakerfield
Check with a groomer for a contact
TRY WATCHING CESAR MILAN, THE DOG WHISPERER. AND GO TO ANY PET SUPPLY STORE AND GET BOOKS.
If you don't know what to do then you need someone to teach you.

YOU CAN NOT EFFECTIVELY LEARN HOW TO DO IT FROM A BOOK, A TV SHOW OR A CD

So much of training is about timing, body language, voice tone, when to move and how to move, and how to show the dog what you want and when to move on to more difficult things.

Do not

(1) get caught up in the fad of "please sit and I'll give you a cookie." Unless of course you don't mind having to walk around smelling like a doggy deli with treats in your pocket for the dog's entire life.

(2) "postive only". Good training includes postive (praise in the form of pets, hugs and voice) and negative (make them do it and disapproval with voice and body language.) "Postive" only has only one result which I will positively guarantee - that on day doggy is going to decide it is more fun to chase the rabbit than do what he is told and get the treat or the toy or whatever.

Would you always obey a speed limit if there was no chace at all of getting a ticket??

(3) Avoid anyone who messes about with those silly head halters, martingales and body harnesses. Under the AKC rules, you can not even walk a dog around on the grounds of the show in those things - and the reason is that the dog is fundamentally out of control without the gadget and doesn't know how to obey and listen without it, despite suppoedly being "trained." (Try teaching 'come' with those stupid headhalters - it is not going to happen!)

.Now you both need a GOOD obedience class - and that is NOT Petsmart or Petco.

GO here to find contacts in you area that can help you locate and obedience trainer who works with all breeds and who does AKC obedience competitions competing at what they claim to teach 鈥?no proof of ability like winning:

how can i train my dog to use the bathroom out side instead of in my back yard?

Answers:
Training a dog to use the potty someplace specific is easy, although it requires your effort initially. Your consistency will determine how long you have to be involved. Well, that and your dogs willingness to please you, and its ability to perform the requested act. When it is time for your pet to use the facilities, put a leash on him, take him to the place you want him to do the deed, and give praise or treats when desired act occurs in desired location. Do not "rub their nose in it" when you find it somewhere you don't want it! That is no training tool, it is simply abuse and a reaction to your own anger. It does nothing but create mistrust in your dog. They will not understand why you put their face in poop, it is just mean. You will get much more consistent results if you put the time and consistency into the training and use positive rewards. Good luck!
Ummm. Outside INSTEAD of in your back yard? What exactly do you mean?

DO you want to have your pet only go in one spot in your yard? Then put it on a leash and take it there, wait for success then give a high-value reward. Do not reward anywhere else. If you can catch the dog going anywhere but the designated spot, then move to the right place then praise and reward the success there.
Is your back yard inside?? Hopefully, he is nice and safe in a fenced back yard.
walk him to where ever it is you want him to go.
What do you want him to do, go in the neighbors yard? What's wrong with your yard?
What??

how can I train my dog to use dog flap ?

Answers:
Use treats and positive reenforcement. Lure your dog through the flap, treat and praise him. If the dog goes around the door, put him back on the other side and continue using treats to lure him through the door. Also, give a vocal command such as out or walk to queue him to the action. After a few days of luring, you should be able to put a treat out side the door, door closed, command the dog to go out.
Sit on the other side of the flap and have the dog on the opposite side, peek through it with a treat and entice him to come through, keep doing this until he gets the idea.

Good luck!
A doggy door you mean?
I just had this same problem. I just put in two of them for my two dogs.
It is a lot of repitition. just sit with them and make them go in and out. It took my dogs about two weeks to get used to it. Oh and lots of praise.
crawl through it first, just kidding..go outside of the door w/ a treat, call his name , open the flap show him the treat, and go from there.
take the dog food and place it either outside or inside,it depends upon the location of the dog.if he is inside the house then place it outside and viceversa.wait for a few moments snd see if the dog goes through the flap to get to the food, surely u would do this at a time when he is very hungry.another trick is that when u take your dog outside for a walk and return home leave the dog outside and close the door after some time the dog will come in through the flap. ih ope it makes sense.
Put a piece of meat on the other side. Should take a couple seconds.
do what Michelle Lynn said %26 when the dog does it make a BIG deal out of it %26 praise the pooch, it worked for my in laws

How can I train my dog to protect? I had an incidence where I was being attacked and dog was playful.?

Pit Bull Female 1 1/2-2 years old
Answers:
The dog who attacked you was being playful? or you were being attacked and your dog wanted to play? If your dog respects you and sees you as the pack leader it will become automatic to protect you from either another human or a dog.
I would think if you train him to protect, he won't be very social anymore.
Dogs have to be trained to protect.
Get a book or a trainer. You can make lots of mistakes, so get advise from a professional.
Sorry about your troubles, I hope you are OK, but the fact that he was playful means he is a great dog. He should train up nicely.
Strange. Most pits have a natural urge to protect their masters. Was this a real attack or did you stage it to see what she would do? If so, did she know your "attacker"??

I wouldn't worry about "training" her to protect you. I would worry more about creating a bond with her so that she wants to protect you not because she has been trained to.

Anyhow pits are intimidating enough to ward off most attackers. An attacker will usually pick a target that doesn't have a dog, even a small dog, especially a pit. They will go for something easier.
Pit bull dogs are frown upon for aggressive nature-its all crap if you ask me. If you need protection or would feel safer with a dog trained to protect, contact you local Schutzhund group or Club or Schutzhund USA. Contact me via messaging and I can give you more information on the sport, it will take time and training on your part. check out www.birchcoveboxers.clearwire.. and select the schutzhund icon, you'll see sweet Tenners going to work.
I would guess that alot depends on the type of dog you are training too. If your dog attacks someone, you can be sued also.
Sorry that you were attacked without protection.not a good thing. No matter if you have a dog with you or not ALWAYS carry mase.or.something else for your defense.

To allow your dog to reach his/her full potential and protect you as it would be natural to.please DO NOT overly pamper! That should solve a lot of problems!!

This is NOT - repeat NOT - a Do-It-Yourself project.

You can NOT do it from a book or a video!!

You must have absoute 100% control of a protection dog and the dog must be 100% reliable.

Start with the Shutzhound folks. Search for a group on the web.

The dog may no be suitable for that. She may have be low on fight and high on the pack score. Its not the breed so much as the individual dog's personality. I have worked with incredible protection trained GOLDENS! I've woked with GDSs afraid of their own shadow and total cowards and only desirious of pets and hugs.

How can I train my dog to kill?

He's a small dog but I want him to defend himself. Is it possible to train him to use a small firearm?
Answers:

I suppose if you were a science wiz, you could work something up. HA!
Start with increasing your home owners insurance.

If you talk to him nicely maybe he will learn to shoot a gun?
OMG, I was so ready to tell you that you were an idiot and needed to find your dog a good home.

Instead, I can't stop giggling at the mental image of a chihuahua using a gun.
lol. coming from a female even? so cute.

i would suggest, however, getting a larger dog. because no small puppy, even with a gun, is going to scare me.
Ok give the dog to someone resposible and use the gun on yourself as a means to keep you from procreating.
SMALL DOGS ARE DANGEROUS ENOUGH. I'D RATHER FACE A ROTTI THAN A CHIHUAU (SP?)
No but you can train him to dial 911
Honey if you do that and get it on tape, you'll get $10,000 from one of those animal video shows!
You are amazing that is like the funniest thing i have heard all day keep it up
i dont know but it is good because he wont let stranger touch them just dont torture
The mighty chihuahua and his six shooters LMAO thats what I call my husband when he thinks hes all big and bad. hehe
No, don't think of it! Even little dogs will naturally protect you! If you're in trouble, a small dog can do some real damage! Go see your therapist and ask him!
If you get the stankypoossy close enough, that will probably do it.
Ha, I was so ready call you an idiot too, but that was really funny. You had me going. Thanks for the laugh. ; )
The funny thing is, is this is such a cute question!

On the other hand I had a chihuahua and he thought he was the biggest dog on the block. He got out one day and got into a fight with the neighbors dog :( and that was then end of my Major. The vet couldn't do anything for him. :(
get real dogs don;t shoot guns there above all that..
anything is possible; good luck
I am going to give you some advice that I wish someone had shared with me when I had your problem.

I have a small dog also. He is a male so he thinks he's tough. I didn't want him outside in the dark to go potty. I bought him the smallest gun I could find. We spent much time together so he would feel safe going out alone. After a few weeks I decided to let him out alone. He didn't want me to watch him so I went in the other room and waited for him to do his potty.

I heard a shot !! I ran to the back door and there he was. He was sitting on the step shaking his head and holding one paw up in the air like he was injured. He was dazed and scared. Thank goodness my neighbor witnessed the whole horrible incident.
She had her dog, a female Poodle, in her arms and the small gun in her hand. She explained that my boy was scared by her dog coming out to go potty. He tried to pull the gun to shoot at her because he was scared. She saw him with the gun and before he could shoot, she jumped him and took it away from him. By then she was mad at him for being so careless and literally beat the heck out of him with her bare paws !
He was slinking to the other room when all this was being explained and the female just sat and growled at him.
He didn't come out from under the bed until the next morning and we have never discussed it. He did ask if he could use the piddle pads at night rather than go outside and I let him know that it was O.K. with me. He refuses to go trick or treating on Halloween too since it will be after dark. He actually volunteered to hand out the candy. He even promised he wouldn't eat any chocolate.

Moral to this story is: Don't buy your boy a gun of any kind.
dam you are one messed up fk you want to kill your baby get into the porn now you want to train a dog to kill. Now am going suggest you sort you own life out freak and to everyone else read her profile before being kind to this weirdo
meditate..HMmmmmmmm.hmmm. jk.um u have to use some1 else to hit her alittle bit like teasing her and keep it up until she gets annoyed. my dog is very submissive to ppl but if he gets annoyed he'll play the game of "get ur hand off me".

How can i train my dog to be more.agressive .?

Answers:
Chetco is right. Dogs are either born with an aggressive nature or they are not. When trying to teach a passive dog to be aggressive all you will succeed in doing is make the dog skittish. I have been training police k9's for 12 years. And when we take a new dog on to be trained there are certain traits in the dog we look for. The dog must have a certain level of confidence that we look for And most of the dogs we get come from breeders that specialize in breeding these dog for work. Don't try to bring something out in your dog that may not be there. Your dog will more than likely start to show a natural protectiveness of it family and home as he/she matures.
What are your intentions?
I personally dont think you should teach your dog to be aggressive at all
Thats not a good trait to teach your dog.Let him be the sweet dog that he is.Your dog will instictively become aggressive naturally if need be.
Is your name illiot or idiot? Aggressive dogs don't need to be in the hands of untrained civilians.
Just let your dog be who he/she is.
Do you like when your significant other tries to change you?
Why would you teach your dog to be agressive?
If you teach him that he's gonna attack you too. Don't make him angry or you're gonna regret it
You can't train a dog to be aggressive..either they're are born with that characteristic, or they are not..Most dogs will become protective when they are fully mature, and seldom before..
why? that will only serve to hurt the dog..dogs are not ment to be weapons.
Inspire him to follow weaker creatures (It is called Choo lagana) follow and appriciate his win.Torture him to make it angry ang it will slowly turn agressive.I promise it will bite you too one day.So dont follow my advise it was only knowledge sharing.
Why would you want to?
You can teach them the way law enforcement trains their dogs, but it's not something a beginner can just pick up and do, you need a mentor or classes. Starting with obedience and progressing to bite and aggression training.
It's possible, but you want it to be a controlled, commanded response, not just mauling the neighbor kids, that will get you in trouble.
WHY DO YOU WANT IT TO BE AGRESSIVE! You know, that if it bites a certain number of people it could be put to sleep. If you ask me that was a stupid question and you are a plain idiot.
*ahem*.call da police.we've got a dog fighter.. you start treating it right and it'll become agressive.*wink* not.
hit it
It's people like you who give perfectly fine dogs a bad reputation.
don't do that! why would u want it to be more agressive? IDIOT!
Well this will surely work .hehe.
TRY BITING HIM!
(I m sorry but I simply coudnt resist this one.)
why would you want ur dog to be aggresive?
if its to defend you in a attack im sure if your dog luvs you it will stand up for you.
don't make him aggressive it will be dangerous. he can undertand language of love.
see it angrily it get aggressiveness but don't do it it will hurt u. you want it aggressive on you or on others visit your home then no one dares to come to your home. you loose all your friends. when you hurt your loved one you will hurt that dog for your wish the innocent dog will get hurting. i think its a bad idea. when the dog goes out of control to control you may beat or hurt it then you may face societies of cruelty against animals. your time will be wasted and their time will be wasted. what you gone achieve by making your dog aggressive? Aggressiveness is inside it you need not make it to learn.
if the pet is child , then its really easy to train
grrrrrrrr.

How can I train my dog to bark?

I know my dog can bark, because she does it all the time when someone pulls down our driveway or if someone knocks on the door. I want her to bark when she has to go outside to go to the bathroom. Right now all she does to alert us of the fact is she gets all excited and starts running around. I try to make her wait and ask her what she wants, but all this does is excite her more. Any suggestions?
Answers:
Really bad idea. Your dog will start barking for everything it wants. It will bark when it is hungry or wants to play or wants attention or wants to be petted. If you try to get the dog to stop barking then you will just confuse the dog and be sending it a mixed message. The dog will not be able to tell when it is okay to bark and when it is not okay. Go with the communication that the dog gives you now when it wants out. What is the problem with that? You obviously know what the dog wants.that it wants out to go to the bathroom. Go with what works. Dogs are not people. You can't make them communicate the way that you would like. They are animals. lol
I would DEFINITELY NOT TEACH YOUR DOG HOW TO BARK! It just teaches it that barking is ok, so you'll have a really annoying, loud pet if you do this. It's a clever idea, but DO NOT DO IT!
I can't imagine anyone trying to get their dog to bark considering all the time we try to get our dogs to stop barking. The only time they don't bark is to go outside, they sit by the door, or if we don't pay attention, we get chewed on till we let them out. Personally, I prefer the quiet approach. Of course, we have large dogs and they make a lot of noise, so the idea of having them bark even more is not something I really want to think about.
try to make him or her bark for the food

How can I train my 11 month old chihuahua to use the potty pad?

Answers:
Watch the dog for a sign that it needs to "go".they usually start sniffing around the floor before they do it. Put it immediately on the pad. Don't clean it up right away.leave it so the odour remains there because the dog likes to go in the same place (detected by smell) as she already has gone. But you can put another pad over it if you want.
keep putting him on the pad when he tries 2 go else where rub his nose in it %26 put him back on the pad 2 teach him
I don't like the regular potty pads. They are made to be shredded by dogs. By some baby crib pads and use them. My dogs go to it easily. I don't train them to the pads, they just use them. To join a fun Chihuahua group, click the link below.

See my answer to the post right before this.
I do not remember the name of it but there is a liquid available that you can put on their potty pads which encourages them to go there.

how can i train an old dog?

Answers:
Training Obidience -
Depending on just how old the dog is, and how long you've had him will determine how difficult it will be to train him/her. I would recomend using SMALL treat the size of your thumb nail. Ifyou want him to shake a paw- hold your hand just lower than his chest, and repeat the word shake (let him smell the treat once from your closed fist) he will most likely get excited, and aftr a while throw his paw into your hand. Praise him alot, and give him the treat. To train him to sit- grab the back of his collar (regular choke chain work best, not the ones with spike, they train a dog out of pain, as a regular choke trained them out of feel and sound, a regular choke doesnt hurt the dog, dogs have bones resembling ribs, but not as heavy duty and long in their necks) and pull back at the same time as you are pushing his rear end down. While doing this say sit repeatedly with about 5 second intervols. he should sit, as he has no where else to go. Many people think pushin just on his rear will make him sit- this is wrong, and will only frustrate the poor old fella. To train him to lay - get him to sit first, then hold a treat in you hand, let him smell it, and slowly lower it to the grond infront of him, remember to put one hand on his rear, to stop him from standing. he will eventually give in to the fact that the treat is on the ground. Remember to keep telling him your command as you are doing any of this, and as soon as he does what you want, even if it is sloppy, give him the treat and praise him with "Ohh what a good boy/girl you are!" if you have any more questions, email me at sweet_angel_chicka@hotmail.com
Lots of yummy treats. It works for men too.
a man or a real dog??
When you bond with a dog, they want to please you and will try about anything they are physically able
The same way you would train a puppy with love and patience and repetition, repetition, repetition
I recently began using clicker training with our 5 month old Border Collie and the results are incredible. I decided to have a go at trying it for my 12 yr old American Eskimo and have had great results there too.

There are some great books available on clicker training and I think it's an excellent method to try.
Haven't you heard that "you can't teach an old dog, new tricks"? This is true! An old dog is so set in their head.. as to what the norm is. They are too stubborn or they just don't care. I've tried treat, praise etc. No interest! Just this "you're boring me kid" look.
The same way you train a young one.

I've taught 9 year olds dogs to do new and demanding jobs- let alone the basics.

And don't do the current fad of ktitchy kitchy coo - have a cookie if you sit.

(1) You don't want to have to carry treats for the rest of the dog's life

(2) You have to use positive and negative. Positive = praise which is pets, hugs, tummy rubs, rolling about playing with them and your voice Negative = making them do it and showing disapproval with your voice and body language.

If you don't use the disapproal or MAKE the dog do it, then what do you do the day he decides that he would rather chase the rabbt than "come" and get the treat, eh?
repitition, treats and lots of patience.

How can I train a dog to lick my feet?

Dogs enjoy licking feet. I don't know why, but they like to lick feet. Some people, including myself, like to have their feet licked by dogs because it feels good. Everyone wins.

So, how do I train a dog to lick my feet? I also want a dog to lick my feet while wearing sandals. I'm sure it'll tickle.
Answers:
Why dont you train yourself to lick his feet too? maybe he would enjoy that you lick his feet who knows?
Peanut Butter.
ewwww
Gross. Is that your idea of foreplay?
some dogs like lotion buy difrent kinds of lotion pick one that he/or she likes! say good girl/or boy! hopfuly this will help!!
Dogs usually go for stinky stuff..you. pup likes to lick your toes, huh?
Eh?? Ugh!!
well, the dog already smelled ur flesh, so it now wants to smell something new. if u wear different shoes on everyday or put a scent on them, it will keep licking ur shoes.

How can i train a 1 year old dog not to chase the family pet bunny?

We just rescued a small dog from the pound. She seems to be part lab, part ridgeback, she weighs about 50 pounds. My problem is we have a pet rabbit who lives in our back yard, and is free. We also have 2 other dogs who have no problem with the bunny. This new one thinks the bunny is the enemy, and when she sees her she goes into full alert mode, and chases him whenever she can.

I've tried taking her out on her leash with a choke collar, and petting the bunny at the same time, and she seems fine with it, just sits there nicely. I pet her when I do it, and tell her good girl.

This seems to work at the moment, but then she'll spot him in the yard, and randomly take off after him.

He has ways to get out of the yard (and get back), and he has places to hide, but I don't like playing this cat and mouse game. I want the dog to learn, and i'm looking for ideas to help speed up the process.
Answers:
your dog is small prey aggressive. the good news is, she can be trained to accept your bunny. the bad news is, if the bunny lives outside, how will she be able to distinguish your pet from a wild rabbit? she can't. in order to remedy this, you may have to move your bunny indoors or keep it in a hutch while the dog is out. you can still train a dog to accept you bunny. you need to teach the "leave it" command. this needs to happen in a professional setting. i do not recommend going to the bigger pet stores for this. you need a qualified, professional trainer who has many years of experience. do not waste your valuable time and money on someone who is only well intentioned.

i work with greyhound rescue. those dogs have been bred for thousands of years to hunt! prey drives varies in degree. my greyhound lives very happily with our cat (and visits my mom's 4 cats all the time). he had a moderate prey drive and, with consistency, was trained to accept the cat in a couple weeks. the grey's that are very high prey drive go to homes with no cats, smaller dogs, or other smaller critters.

TRAINING IS YOUR ANSWER! :)
I'm not sure but train the dog quick, one of my co-workers had 2 bunnies and her dog killed them both!! Poor bunnies!! Poor co-worker was so traumatized!
Awe man you got problems.labs are retrievers, maybe the owner before taught him to do that, you see I have two dogs They're shepherd/st. Bernard and we have wild rabbits running around and they always catch them..you should contact the dog whisperer cause this isn't going to go away on it's own, the choke collar doesn't work? wow you've got a lot of work to do, I'm sorry
If your dog has a prey drive, that's instinctual. You can't train out instinct. You CAN however, take her to a gentle training class where you teach her to listen to you and your commands.

A choke chain is not necessary and can actually harm your dog. Use a gentle leader or a sighthound martingale instead, and take her to training classes ASAP. Petsmart and Petco classes can actually be fabulous, and the right price.

And know that you can never leave this new dog in the backyard with the rabbit without your complete control and supervision of the situation. Remember, your dog is faster and more agile than you are, so never let down your guard or take her off the leash while the rabbit is there. This means for the rest of her life. Prey drive cannot be removed. It can be 'handled', but at any given time, she may slip back into her instincts.

Good luck to you.

how can i tell whether or not a dog has rabies?

Answers:
If it was your own dog, and lives indoors, rabies is not likely. If it was a stray dog, then you need to call your county health department. You may also call your local police or sheriff's office and they will put you in touch with the proper authorities. If you call the health department, it will be the best, as they will make certain that all is well, and it won't cost you anything..

If it is your own dog, the health department will quarantine him for 10 days, to make certain he is rabies free, if he has never been vaccinated..

My kids were playing with a litter of tiny kittens.. A neighbor kid got scratched.as is common when playing with kittens..The parents called the health department, and they came out and made me keep the kitten in a cage for 10 days.and came back in 10 days to check to make sure he didn't have rabies! lol a 7 week old kitten!
Bite him, if you foam at the mouth and have lock jaw.he has rabbies.
some symptoms are disorientation and sometimes foaming at the mouth, unusual aggressiveness.
but the only 100% way to tell is to autopsy the brain
Is your dog salivating profusely, trying to shy away from people or seem not as active? The main indicator is the foaming at the mouth.
Symptoms usually develop between 20 and 60 days after exposure. Rabid animals may become aggressive, combative, and highly sensitive to touch and other kinds of stimulation. And they can be vicious. This is the "furious" form of rabies, the kind traditionally associated with mad dogs.

But there is also a "dumb" form of the disease in which the animal is lethargic, weak in one or more limbs, and unable to raise its head or make sounds because its throat and neck muscles are paralyzed. In both kinds of animal rabies, death occurs a few days after symptoms appear, usually from
respiratory failure.

http://www.thepetprofessor.com/articles/.
You can't. You have to take it to the vet. They will isolate it and if it has rabies it will get sick and die. I'm not sure what the incubation period is, but if you don't isolate it it can infect others.

Here's what you need to do. Call animal control to come get this dog. Go to your doctors office or the emergency room. You just keep asking the same questions over and over. If you think the dog could have rabies you need to do something now. Rabies shots are very effective, but if you get rabies there is no cure and you will die.
If he's angry, foaming at the mouth or getting sluggish he may have it .
If he's still alive 10 days from now he didn't have rabies, if he's vaccinated he can't have rabies. Other than that it takes lab testing of the brain (no this is not a survivable test)
HI

Look You cant tell for sure. I saw your other question out here about getting a rabies shot for yourself.

I dont know what you have going on .. but here it is

IF you have been bit, or even scratched by an animal you dont know is ok.

First you shoud call animal control and have them get the dog .. MAKE sure you tell them you were bitten.

NEXT YOU go to the doctors, urgent care or ER..

IF this animal has Rabies , the sooner you get treatment the better. Dont dismiss it. Very Few peopl ever survive Rabies and those who do are permanently damaged.

All I can do is tell you the above advice and hope you listen.

Good Luck

Wismom
Oh for heavens sake - you can't be that hurt if all you can do is sit on the computer!!

You can NOT tell by looking. The animal, if not vaccinated, has to be confined for 10 days for observation by a VET - not these people telling these olld wives tales online.
if they are foaming at the mouth that is usually the easiest way to tell
Foaming at the mouth.
LMAO!
RELAX!

sheeeeeeeeeesh..
The odds are so LOW as to be nearly NON-EXSISTANT!
Forget about it!

You **DON'T need to panic!
LOL! Get a GRIP!

The ONLY way to PROVE rabies is to KILL,DECAPITATE %26 do "BRAIN-SECTIONS"!! *NOT* necessary!

As usual here.99% of the previous answer are TOTAL /UTTER **BULL**! You people don't have any brains at ALL ,do you?? LMAO!
a rabid dog will foam at the mouth and become very very aggressive and mean

how can i tell when my dauchshunds is ready to have her puppies is there any sings that ican look for.?

Answers:
Hi, how many days along is she. Dogs whelp approximately 62 days after mating. But it can be a few days longer, depending on when they ovulate. She will start to "nest" in her blankets, whelping box, etc. Her temperature will drop to approx. 98.1. When this happens she'll have puppies withing 24 hours. You will see the puppies "drop" in her belly, her spine may even protrude more. She will also loose her mucous plug, but that can be up to a week before she whelps. She will also start panting when the first stage of labor begins.
hi, she will start panting, %26 get restless, but watch for the panting, good luck with the babies!! i bred cocker spaniels for 15 yrs.
This is an excellent site to tell you all about the birthing process. Good luck.
http://www.hilltopanimalhospital.com/whe.
gestation is 56-60 days. she will start nesting, anxious, restless, wanting to hide, she will pant a lot, and if her temp has dropped to about 98 or so, it's probably going to be in the next 12-24 hrs. Generally. Sometimes labor can last up to 36 hrs. You may need to help her, and if she seems like she's having any trouble, dont hesitate to call your vet, or emergency vet if it is after hours. You may want to have an x-ray performed the day after to make sure there aren't any pups left. That can tend to cause problems!!
She will start to lay down and she will get restless. Then bring over to the spot you want her to have her puppies.
her temp. will lower and she will start nesting. she will get restless and pant alot.

How can I tell what mix my dog is when it don't does not say on the records?

I have a mixed dalmation but I can not tell what he is mixed with! I do have records, but I still can't figure it out! Please help!

Thanks-

Answers:
There is only 1 way to be 100% sure. DNA testing. It's quite expenseive but can be done. AKC has the dna profiles of all registered breeds. I know of a guy who has a boxer cross dog and the by-law officers said he's a pitt bull (banned here) . He had the dna profileing done on his dog to prove that he is not a pitt bull! If thats too much your local vets or even the emploees at the local animal shelter can help, remeber they see 100's of dogs and know what breeds are common in your area.
Waht does the dog look like? Did you ask the vet?
You may never know for sure, but anyone knowledgeable about the AKC dog breeds can give you an educated guess. Decide what about your dog is not Dalmation-like, then find breeds that have those misplaced characteristics. Example: I have a Cocker Spanial mix. She has very long, silk hair and long, thin muzzle. These are characteristics of an Afghan Hound. Cocker x Afghan? Maybe.
have u had him 2 ur vet yet? he should have a fair idea wat he is
Pretty much - when you adopt a "mut" - you just have to guess. Get online and look at pictures of different breeds - and see which ones your dog looks like.
just ask ur vet or mayber check out some books on dog breeds from the library to see what characteristics ur dogs has that might match the mixed in breed.
What does it matter? You don't want to breed it I hope! Without a picture that clearly shows the dog, there is absolutely no way to know. And WITH a picture, it is very unlikely you can tell.
Go here and look at all the breeds and take your best guess.

http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm.

I have a 15 year old mix and when people way "She is gorgeous, what breed is she?" I just shrug and say a "'Betsy' - maybe some Chow, maybe some Aussie or Keeshond or both.momma was a tramp out doing the bars and daddy was passing through town."
You will need to go back to the place or person you got the dog from and ask them,or your vet may can help.
Kinda hard to help with no picture.

How can I tell my chihuahuas have mated?

We recently aquired a female chihuahua and at first they were really wary of each other. Now they fight and play and he is always trying to hump her but we have not seen them actually doing it yet. We are hoping they will mate. They have become accustomed to each other and will now curl up together to sleep but I have not been able to tell if they have "done the deed" yet. Should I just take her to the vet and have her examined? How can I tell she was in heat and has been impregnanted?
Answers:
Do the dogs have AKC papers? And don't go more than one litter if you can't get rid of the pups. Get dog fixed. If you aren't ready for the responsibility then get her fixed before she gets prego.

Female dogs go into what is called an ester cycle. Her private area will kinda swell up and it will bleed (just as human females go thru their cycle). This time of heat lasts about 3 weeks or so. The first week (6-9 days), she doesn't want anything to do with the male. The next stage is the time she can have the best chance of getting pregnant. The third stage is just kinda winding down. The gestation period of dogs is 9 weeks. It won't take long and her nips will start to swell a bit. Then she'll start to swell. As she gets closer to birth, she'll get kinda moody (dang! a lot of this is like women..ha). She'll make a nesting area, mostly in a quite place like under a bed. She'll paw and scratch at the floor in the area if there isn't anything she can find to make a "nest" with.
I would say 11 weeks after you notice the swelling and bleeding, really start watching her. You can get a rectal thermometer and tell how close she is to delivery. I think the temp goes up to like 104 or 106, then back down again in the evening. That part I can't remember. There are some good animal vet sites on the web. You want to be with her when she has her pups, just in case there's something wrong. You may have to help deliver, or clean the pups. Make sure the placentas come out and don't let her eat too much afterbirth. Once you know for sure she is prego, get her some pre-natal dog food or vitamins from the vet. Not from Wal Mart. Also, it would be a good idea to let the vet look at her from time to time.
Keep her shots up to date, but no shots if she's prego. Make sure the pups get their shots when they are supposed to. You may have to feed them if mommy won't. Puppy milk at WalMart is ok. Ween them by 10 weeks. Moist puppy chow in the milk is a good way to start. Then gradually go to dry. Start this around the 9th week or so.
Oh, and the pups will be hard on you to give away. They are so darn cute. You have been warned. Good luck.
Just wait, no? If a load of little ones comes out, they did it!
The only way to know for sure is when the puppies are born.
if she has pups then u will know.
When one of the dogs starts to get fat then I think you will be able to tell.
when he stops trying to hump means he has done it,
maybe the other one hasnt been in heat yet.
have patience why such a hurry, one day the female will get fat then you know for sure
the fighting and playing is foreplay
you shouldnt allow two unfixed dogs to simply breed on their own.. you wont know her due date and as Chihuahuas often need cesearians you may have a dead dog on your hands

NO dog should be allowed to breed unless its a registered dog who has attended dog shows and proven its an excellent example of the breed WORTHY of passing on its genetics.

if you love your dogs you will not allow them to bred.. unfixed dogs face more health risks..

How can I tell if my shih-tzu dog is pregnant?

She is a very small dog and has a lot of hair so it's kind of hard to tell. She also was chubby when we got her a couple of months ago from another family that didn't want her. We had already had a male puppy that we got last christmas and it's impossible to seperate them we're in the same house! We came home one time and caught them in the act. I have notice she isn't able to keep up with us on our walks and she has less energy than before and she isn't eating as much. Also, I woke up one morning to her throwing up in my room and she has a couple of other times. I don't want to transfer human signs of pregnancy to our dog but it seemed like morning sickness and i guess she has gained a couple of pounds around the stomache area. Please help..i'm only 20 and i have no idea what to look for!
Answers:
yes it sounds like she is pregnant, dogs do have some symtoms as a humans they have morning sickness and tend to not eat as much as they use too, you need to take her to the vet and they can give her a pregnancie test and she will need to taken to the vet to make sure there will be no problems when she whelps the pups and if she is pregnant then make sure you take her in right after she has delivered the pups to make sure she is doing ok and that the pups are healthly
dogs dont have the same side effects as humans.
Well-get them spayed and neutered first thing. Secondly, you can keep them in separate rooms or crates-thirdly--whether she is or isn't pregnant, she needs to see a vet.
if she starts demanding pickles and ice cream, your in trouble!
Dogs living in the same house can and need to be separated if you have a female in heat. Better yet health wise for both dogs, they need to be spayed and neutered.

This dog should be taken to the vet for a check-up. While there, the vet can educate you on how to look after a pregnant dog, help her through whelping and look after a litter of puppies. It's time to educate yourself now before doing damage to your dog and/or her puppies.
wait and got 2 tha vet
Take her to a vet pronto! even if shes not pregnant, she needs some kind of medical care for her symtoms. Please don't let your little dog suffer. She could be sick from something else. Also dogs don't normaly get morning sickness
Mayde she is hurting if she is pregnant so she doesn't fell hungry if puppies are pushing on her stomach, pet her it might relax her. You answered your own question eveything you have said is a sign of a pregnant animal. Well a week before she has the puppies her nippels will start to fill up with milk , look for that. also weigh her now then weigh her again in a week or so. Be careful she is a small dog and might have dead puppies or you mite have a dead dog, the puppies mite be to much on her.
Yes, she sounds like she may be pregnant.

you may not be able to keep them apart, but you can spay and neuter to prevent puppies. You should do them both, but atleast do one of them. spaying/neutering adds years to a dogs life, and can prevent certain cancers.

How can I tell if my pit bull is pregnant?

Is there any way I can tell if my pit bull is pregnant ? The 1st month without going to the doctor?
Answers:
Do the unborn puppies a favor and get your dog spayed right away. I am totally against abortion of any kind but there are way too many dogs at your local shelter that need homes. Please get your dog spayed and do not breed her. PLEASE
You will not be able to tell until the 5th or 6th week. She will seem to blow up over night and her teats will get noticable larger.
bulgy nipples and changing temperament :)
My dog just had 9 pups and we were able to tell that she was pregnant by her teats they dropped at about 5-6 weeks.we were not sure if she got pregnant or not and by the time her teats dropped she only had 2 more weeks before whelping..
You could watch for her to gain weight, or feel her stomach for a kick [s].

How can I tell if my pit bull has mastitus and whether or not she is infected(septic)?

My I yr old pit bull just had her first litter on Nov 5, 06. She had eight total, all alive and healthy. Four days later one of the puppies had died, then another one the next day, and one more the same night, and the last one the day after that. She was very upset and kept getting up to look for them. Soon after we noticed that her teats in the back were very swollen, and she wasn't procing milk. So I tried giving her a long very warm (NOT burning hot) bath, then I tried to massage the swollen teats. She didn't really seam all that confortable but she let me do it any way. The milk that came out when I did that, had a very strong odor to it and was kind of thick and oily. We have since been bottle feeding the rest of the puppies and they got chubbier, but now she won't stay by them or try to clean them. What, if anything, can I do for her?
Answers:
You can give her amoxycillin an put a warm compress on her nipples. Mastitis also known as milk fever is not a good thing as you know now for the pups. All the APBT's that I have seen with it,none would lay down on their own accord to let their pups nurse. The milk will have a smell to it,kinda sour is the best way to describe it. I'm not certain but I think you maybe able to use tetracycline also.
Sounds like mastitis but only your vet can confrim that and i would take her there immediatly if that is the case cause it can become very serious if the infection is not gotten under control. I was watching a vet show on tv and they had to cut off the teet of an animal that had a severe case of mastitis in order to drain the infection to save the animals life. Good luck
This is a medical question. Only a vet can diagnose and prescribe a treatment.
Get her spayed and dont put her through this again.
from a life time breeder of apbt WHY would you breed a year old puppy? Would you let me knock up your 13 year old daughter and say its okay

How can I tell if my dog is sick?

He just hasn't been himself lately.
Answers:
If you notice any of the following symptoms, your dog has fallen sick-
1. Change in amount of food intake
2. Irregular breathing, shortness of breath, prolonged or heavy panting, etc.
3. Coughing, gagging, sneezing, retching, or vomiting.
4. Nose: running, crusting, discharge, etc.
5.Eyes: swelling, discharge, redness, etc.

Healthy dogs have a temperature of 101-102潞 F, a respiratory rate of 15-20 breaths per minute, and a heart rate of 80-120 beats per minute. They have pink mucous membranes
look at his gums if they are really pale do see a Vet with him
you know you dog better than anyone! if you feel he is acting different, it wouldn't hurt to take it to the vet to be safe!
Any sudden change in behavior is a big sign of something wrong. Also monitor his eating behavior. Check if he is eating and drinking regularly and not puking. You can make sure his stool is healthy by looking to make sure it is hard and not soft or diarrhea.

And as always, check with your vet for a full check up. It wouldnt hurt.
take it to the vet or feel its nose
Oh my if his gums are pale that means that he is losing blood so I hope it isn't that bad. "Ain't doing right" is a common complaint that owners have with their animals. A veterinarian will be able to a complete physical exam and preform any needed diagnostic tests to see if there is a true unlying disease. Sometimes in tune owners who recognize a behavior change in their animals have allowed for life saving measures to be taken. Always better safe than sorry.
The first thing any dog owner or pet owner should do if their dog is acting off colour is PHONE THE VET! You will notice yourself, any changes from their normal behaviour such as being generally quiet and lethargic, lying around more than normal, hanging their heads ie not holding them up, loss of appetite, profuse panting, restlessness, seizures/fits, loss of balance, inability to walk or even move, vomiting, diahorrea, vile smells coming from ears, mouth, backside, bad skin, limping, sudden yelping for no apparent reason. Judge for yourself, its the same as knowing if a member of your family is sick. They just appear out of character. Either way, if it is something serious, time is of the essence and it is vital you don't wait any longer.

Please see your vet ASAP.

Good Luck.
If you think something is off, it probably is. Definitely get him to the vet. Spend the money to have a full blood panel done. It will probably save you tons of dough in the long run.
Lack of appetite, warmer than usual to the touch, warm dry nose, laying around more, constipation or loose stools, whining, difficulty getting up, not doing much tail wagging, or droopy tail..drinking more water..urinating often..
Any of these could be symptoms of illness.
I would take him to the vet.
Dogs who are sick often stop eating and become lethargic ("lazy" or "unresponsive"). They may also vomit, have diarrhea, and refuse to drink water. Take your dog's temperature (you'll need a rectal thermometer) to make sure he's not running a fever. (Anything over 102 is too high.) If his "not acting like himself: goes on for more than a day or two, take him, and a sample of stool (poop) to the vet to get him checked out. He may have worms or other intestinal parasites, or have any of a large variety of bacterial or viral infections. Your vet will know for sure.

Feeling the dog's nose will not give you an accurate reading on its health. Healthy dogs can still have warm or dry noses.

How can i tell if my dog is pregnent?

I have a pekeginese female and a stud, she went into heat 5 weeks ago she got pretty chunky. How can i tell if she is pregnent??
Answers:
she will start to nest you will see her get fatter eventually you can feel the pups moving around..or you can wait 63 days to see if any puppies come out.
you should get her a pregnancy test at the vet.
Take her to the vet! Unless you can now get home pregnancy test kits for dogs.
monitor her eating habbits, check if she's more defensive and aggressive than usual, check her "bigger parts" for movement. Communicate with her, it will come to you.
Is she eating pickles?
She'll be moody definitely.
yeah take her to the vet otherwise there麓s no way to know it for sure. I have a French mini toy and I had to leave her at my aunt麓s because I was going on holidays, I picked her up a week later and I never realized she was pregnant untill she gave birth only one little puppy. I was so freaked out when I came home and find two instead of one :-S.
She will have puppies around 63 days after conception. So if in 63 days she has puppies, she was pregnant
If she's all of a sudden craving Ice Cream at 3 o'clock in the morning, then she's probably pregnant.
J/K
Take her to a vet.
Take it to the vet to find out. Unless there's a home pregnancy kit for dogs.
If she started her heat cycle 5 weeks ago, she should be about 3-4 weeks pregnant. She should be eating more, getting a rounder belly and her breasts will get larger. In about a week, I would take her to the vet and have hi check. How old is the dog? She should not have been bred until at least 18 months old.
is she fat is she gaining wight

How can I tell if my dog is having an allergic reaction to her kennel cough shot?

My dog received the kennel cough shot on Friday of last week. Beginning on Saturday, she began periodically making a wheezing noise. The noise is not constant, but what is the best thing to do? See a vet or wait it out?
Answers:
Some dogs will develop mild signs similar to tracheobronchitis when given this vaccine. Very often, the symptoms will last for several days and the dog will recover without treatment.

If it lasts longer than a few days, give the vet a call and see what he says.
Unfortunatley the vaccine commonly causes kennel cough symptoms. So basically your dog has a mild case of kennel cough. If it worsens give youre vet a call. It should go away on its own though.
The first thing you should do is report the adverse reaction of the shot. Then call the vet and explain the situation, they may tell you to come in, but they must be aware that the batch and lot no. of the shot you dog received is causing reactions.

How can I tell if my dog is gay??

Answers:
Dogs aren't gay.

Dogs hump other male dogs to show prominence.
Think prison.

One way to show your manhood in prison is to rid of someone's dignity. And there's only one way to do that. *L*

Dogs do the same thing to show their "Alpha-ness"
If you are then he is!
All dogs are bisexual. They'll hump and lick anything, male or female.
If he acts anything like you, he's probably gay.
Oh good heavens, and if it was gay, what would it matter?? Get a life!!
tuch his penis if he dosen't dew anything he is gay
your dog is not gay but i'm concerned about you
Well when he starts humping the cute little Jack Russel down the street that would be a good sign.
I will tell you , all animals are Gay they will get off on anything whether its alive or not
sniff his bottom - that's how they figure it out.
Well you could take him to Big Gay Al's Big Gay boat , an if he has a good time , then he probaly is gay , so you should let him stay :)
does it matter??
Gay dogs like gay humans have great hygene, lots of style and live better than most of us.
If I were you.. I would not waste the time to try to find out.. Your dog IS NOT GAY. in the animal kingdom(other than humans) it does not exist
a dog can never be gay. it has a natural instinct to breed with only female dogs and even though you may see a male dog mounting other male dog this is a sign a dominance the male dog that is doing the mounting is telling the other dog that I'm the the dominant one and you are the subordinate one
Read this:
Simon %26 Schuster: Is Your Dog Gay? (Hardcover)
If he gets upset because your bedspread does'nt match your wall paper.

ok ur gross
you don't

How can I tell if my dog has hip dyspepsia?

Answers:
You need to get hip xrays for that. Not even many vets can tell for sure without xrays so there's no way to explain to you how to check at home. Better to get it checked sooner than later.
you go to a vet for diagnosis
Ask your vet to do a prelim x-ray
Take the dog to your vet and tell him what you suspect and have him do an x-ray of the dogs hips. That should tell him and he will tell you. Ask to see the x-rays and have him go over them in detail with you.
Good luck
You mean hip dysplasia. Only a vet can tell you for sure. In severe cases that have progressed, the dog will be lame.
Dysplasia. You can only know for sure by x-ray. Vets can only guess and surmise by exam.
i'm a vet tech for an animal clinic .. best way is def. having xrays taken by ur vet
You first modify your question to read:

How can I tell if my dog has hip dysplasia.

Dyspepsia is indigestion.

A veterinarian can tell if a dog has hip dysplasia.
I hope your dog does not have it. Hurts them a lot but can be treated with medication.
When your dog reaches the age of two you can have your vet take an x-ray and sent it to OFA they will rate the dogs hips anywhere from excellent to poor and then you will know how good or bad the hips are.
You vet can diagnose displasia from an x-ray alone.
x-rays are the only true way.

How can I tell if my dog has dry skin or fleas?

We shampoo our dog (german shepherd mix) every week with flea shampoo and put flea stuff on once a month. She has started to itch A LOT today (bathed her yesterday). She does not have flakes and her fur is so thick its hard to tell if she has fleas. She is scratching constantly. How do you tell the difference and what can we do to help her?
Answers:
Sounds like you are drying her skin with that much cleaning. Dogs need to have some oil on their coats, for weather protection. You may be washing this off her coat and skin causing it to dry. I would cut back on the bathing to at least once a month, and try a different shampoo. Maybe one that has conditioners for her skin. The medication in the shampoo to kill the fleas may also be causing an allergic reaction.
I thnink the shampoo is drying out the dog skin. Ask your vet about this.
Maybe you didn't get all the soap off! Wash her again and rinse well.
take him to the doctor.
YOUR DOG HAD FLEAS OR DRY SKIN THE DOG WOULD BIT
HIM SELF (NOT HARD DON'T WORRY) AND SKETCH IN WEIRD PLACES.
See a vet. She may have had an allergic reaction to something. Unless you have a professional look at her you won't know for sure. It may be something that will be easy to combat if caught early. Get professional advice.
conditioner helps till thier skin makes oil.
Move her fur a bit and see if you can see her skin. It should be flaky if it's dry, but if you notice small blood stains and little black dots jumping around it's fleas.

How can I tell if my dog has a fever and if it is serious?

His nose is very dry and he seems more tired than usual.
Answers:
Get a thermometer, preferably digital. Now put some kind of lube, like petroleum jelly or KY jelly on the end of it. Now lift your dogs tail and place the end of the thermometer in his anus. A dog's normal temp will range between 101 to 102 degrees, give or take depending on the dog. If he does have a fever, take him to the vet ASAP. He may have an infection or something serious going on.
First of all, look at his eyes. Are they bright and shiny? Second, look at his ears. Do they smell? Are they red? Dogs with fever often have burning ears. Take him to the vet if any apply!
put a therometer up there butt
A dry nose really means nothing. If your dog is lethargic and not acting himself then it is possible he is not feeling well. If you feel as though he has a temp then contact your vet.
I'd say just to go to the vet. A vet checkup would really help whether he has a fever or not. The best of luck to your dog. I love dogs. :]]
DUH>>>>> you use a themometer! Rectally with an animal.

How can I tell if a mixed breed dog will have floppy or standing ears?

I am going to get a a dog from the local animal shelter but do not want one that has ears which stand straight up. Id prefer the dog to have floppy ears. My last dog had floppy ears when i got her at 8 weeks but they eventually stood up. Do not be offended if your dog has standing ears--i just want to make sure my new dog looks different than my last (the greatest dog who ever lived). the problem is the pound doesnt know what type of mix the dogs are. Most of the time they guess as best they can. How can i tell if the ears are likely to stand when i dont know the breeds involved?
Answers:
If it is a pup under 3 months old, the ears will be close to her head, and not stand out from the head at all..If it is over 4 months old, and the ears are still not standing, when the dog plays and moves a lot, then they won't stand later.
You can see these puppies are about 3-4 months old> http://images.google.com/images?sourceid.
and these that won't stand, at about same ages> http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10.
I would say to buy and older puppy. When I got my puppy her ears were floppy and now they stand up.

How can i teach my puppy to go on the cat toilette?

I got an 8 weeks mini pinscher puppy. But i live on the third floor so i tried to go outside after she ate or drinked. But she can't hold it. So we got her a cat toilette because she is so little. When she wakes up we put her in there and she pies. But after she ate she just sits in there and looks at me. Then she just runs around but we don't always catch her doing something. I heard about stuff like dumping her nose in * but i don't agree with that kind of stuff. Can somebody give me some good advice?
Answers:
I have 3 dogs in an apt. and my female Shih-tzu is litter box trained. Her breeder started all the pups using a litter box (filled with newspaper) and we just continued it. He started them using it by confining them to a small are (like the corner of a kitchen) and spreading newspaper all over the puppies area (little squares like the size of a normal sheet of paper). You put the puppy's food and bed on one side then a little litter pan on the other side. As the puppy wets or messes on the paper, you pick up these sheets and place them into the litter box (removing the poop first of course). Don't replace the sheets you remove. As you start to accumulate more sheets in the box, you can start to take out the older ones. Eventually the only papers that are left are the ones in the box and hopefully the puppy will go into there to relieve itself. If the puppy fails to use the paper and pees or poops on the bare floor start all over from the beginning by spreading the whole area with paper again. We had to re-train our little Shih-tzu like this again when we brought her home, and only had to repeat the process one time before she started going in the box every time. Now that she is older, she does go outside when the other 2 dogs go for walks, but she knows that if I don't get home on time that she doesn't have to hold it and can go to her box. The thing that amazed me the most was about a month ago when my 9 yr. old LabX had some tummy troubles and had the runs while I was gone and was smart enough to figure out to go in the litter box :o) She's never been taught to use the litter box, but has watched the little Shih-tzu use it and not get in trouble for going in there..hehehe.
To litter box train her, take her to the box shortly after she eats, when she wakes up, and after or in the midst of play. Put a leash on her if you need to to keep her focused. If she doesn't go, let her out, but take her back again in 15 minutes or when it looks like she is about to relieve herself (sniffing the floor, circling, starting to wander off, pacing). Praise her and give her a treat when she goes in the right place.

A crate is a great way to prevent accidents. She is less likely to eliminate in the crate when she will have to be so close to it. She should be in your sight anytime she is not confined.

As this age she does not have the muscle strength to control her elimination. That will not happen until she is about five months old. Plan on cleaning many accidents between now and then.
Here's my advice: you shouldn't be living with a puppy or dog in an apartment. Use common sense; buy a house or get a cat.
Using the litter box for a dog? I havn't heard of many things like that. Maybe it could be done. There are more expensive things you can buy, like a grass square where he/she can go.
To answer your question, go to Google.ca.
that is weird. I would get a cat or like another person said buy a house.. or get those doggie pads for indoors those work great

How can I teach my dog to..?

.aggressively defend our home and property against strangers and intruders, but be passive/friendly to strangers/other people when we go on walks to the park or to someone elses house? Is this just an instinct they have to be born with, or can it be trained?
I don't want my dog to be aggressive all the time, and I dn't want it to be passive all the time. How do I teach him to know when it is and when it isn't ok (at home / not at home) ?
Answers:
It's not always instinctive, and it can be trained into many dogs. However, I don't suggest that you do this kind of work on your own. It's too easy to make training errors that will have serious ramifications later on.

I recommend finding the nearest Schutzhund group and having them evaluate your dog. Not all dogs can be trained for protection work. If they think that he's Schutzhund material, sign up with them and train with people who are knowledgible in this field.

You might also see if there are private trainers in your area who do protection work, but please, be very careful and let your instincts guide you. Some 'trainers' substitute abuse for training on the theory that a mean dog is a good protection dog. WRONG, and wrong again.

A good protection dog is under his handler's control at all times, not one that attacks unprovoked and without being ordered to. Good luck. . .I hope you find a good group or person to work with!

Edit:

The only effect gunpowder and/or raw meat has on a dog is to ruin his digestive system. If your stomach hurt constantly, you'd probably be mean, too. . .but "mean" and protection-trained are not the same by any stretch.
feed him gunpowder on his food and then let him out and have some one walk around the house to teach him to be a good gaurd dog
you don't!! just give it lots of love and make it part of the family!! if you do this, they will protect you to the end!!
DON'T" GIVE IT GUN POWDER! THIS MAKE IT MEAN TO ANYONE AND ANYTHING%26lt; INCLUDING YOU FAMILY!
every time you leave him at home tell him to watch the house. when you get home say " did you watch the house (your dogs name) ? " and make sure to say good boy/girl you watched the house and reward him with hugs.
teach your dog specific commands for specific reasons. for instance, if the dog is acting agressive toward family/friend, or some other non-threatening thing like fireworks etc, use a word like "relax" or "settle"
also- teach your dog commands for being watchful, for example; "watch" or "guard" etc.
most dogs will instinctively defend their territory/home/family etc, and some more so than others depending on the breed. you can look up info online for the breed of dog you have. Also, if the dog is neutered/spayed they are less likely to be 'fighter' dogs, which is good cuz you dont want an aggresive dog, just a good guard dog
Bond with your dog. Your dog will defend you if he feels you are his master. If he's trying to be agressive, and it isn't the correct place/time just a tug on the leash will let him know his place.
You really can’t because all dogs have different personalities just like people. BUT----you can certainly train a dog’s natural tendencies. If you want a good watchdog, you must pick a breed that is known for that, and then make sure he gets the proper training. If you already have a beloved pet and want to train him, you can probably do that too, because most dogs will try to defend whatever they see as “theirs”, including their family and property. If you already have a beloved pet and want to train him, look for materials at your public library and follow the advice carefully. It has been my experience lately that most people are “afraid” to discipline a dog in the same way they are afraid to discipline a child. This is absolutely ridiculous because dogs are “wired” to respect the “lead pack dog” which would be YOU. They instinctively respond to what you decide is appropriate because they “look up to” you. I am very afraid of dogs who are not disciplined because of their lack of respect. They will almost certainly hurt small children (who they don’t “look up to” because they are not their “lead pack dog”.) Never, ever leave an untrained dog alone with a small child. After all, a dog is a dog, not a person.
You dont. Take my dogs for example. They are pretty friendly when we're home but will guard the house with their lives if anyone ever tried coming in.
It's easy,it's called a "Professional Trainer"!Teaching a dog to be aggressive in ONLY the proper situations,is not something to be done by a beginner,or inexperienced person. You don't want your dog attacking a child,or someone walking by,because he mistakenly perceives them as a threat. There are trainers who specialize in guard dogs, etc. It may be expensive, but not as expensive as a law suite if your dog attacks someone.

How can I teach my dog to run by my bike..safely?

As we all know.those horrid winter months are coming. I just ended up with my sister's dog (she didn't take care of him) and he will be in a kennel while i'm at school/work. My other three dogs tire easily (two being small breeds that are pooped just by running around my house and the other is very old) so I have never had this problem before. He is an aussie shepherd so I figured a walk won't be good enough. By winter I won't have enough money for one of those bicycle jogger things so.is there a way I can teach him? Or is there a jogger thing cheaper than $50?
Answers:
He has to do it on a leash to be safe -and yes, it can be done.

You are better off if you can use a bike that has up right handle bars and coaster brakes.

He MUST be 100% reliable on the command heel and stay at your left side and not deviate even of there a 4 dogs to play with only 6 feet away. (If he doesn't do this, take him to obedience class this winter - you will both gets lots of exercise practicing an hour a day. A competent trainer will have him and you heeling satisfactorily in 10-12 weeks,)

Get a 6 foot leash and a chain slip collar that has a 3-4 finger widths between his neck and the chain. Put the collar on so the loop that slides through the ring comes over the back of his neck and towards you in a straight line. DO NOT TRY BIKING WITH A FLAT COLLAR - YOU WILL GET TOWED DOWN THE ROAD.

If he does do heel, pick a place where the surface is dirt, not asphalt. Step over and into the bike and make him get on your left at heel. Hold the leash in your left hand - give him enough length so he can move up to 4 feet from you. Start peddling and move off slowly. Tell him "heel" (I use "on me" for anything that means get on my left.)

Talk to him: no - slow, heel, come on ,up up , steady, good guy.

If he tries to dart out to the side or in front or lags,, use you fingers to snap (not pull) the leash. (Can you ride with one hand at first? That is the easiest way to manage the leash at first.)

Go slow - he'll get the idea. Aussies are clever little beasties.

If he tries to dart in front of the bike, brace to stop fast and drop a foot and let him make the mistake of getting in the way of the wheel. Probably won't do it again after the wheel whacks him once.

If he doesn't pay attentiion to things like sign posts, let him drift into one and snag the leash - just plan and be ready to stop fast and drop a foot as he hangs up on the post and brings himself to an abrupt halt. He probably won't make that mistake twice and will learn to watch out and move closer to you at the sight of a sign post.

As he gets better at it, you can try taking him on quiet side streets.

I weigh 98 lbs and my 115 lb Kuvasz does this every day with the bike when we go on errands around our village - he has to, he is a mobility Service Dog and has my purse.(shoulder injury - no lifitng, no carrying.) And this is how he learned to go biking and even did in the middle of a street music festival with crowds and never veered or bobbled once.)

By the way, if you do need to do an obedience class first, forget Petsmart.

Now you both need a GOOD obedience class - and that is NOT Petsmart or Petco.

GO here to find contacts in you area that can help you locate and obedience trainer who works with all beeds and has experience with GSDs and who does AKC obeedience compettions:

Even it they are an hour or more away, they will know other people all over the state.

Happy riding!
I'm not sure what you mean by "bicycle jogger things" but I really don't think that your dog will get the same exercise and peice of mind out of running inside on a machine than he will just by being outside.
All dogs like to walk, and really it isn't the intensity, it's the time spent. A good long walk is just as good for a dog as a long run. Part of the reason the dog needs to be walked is to get it out of the house. Dogs are roamers, they need to keep moving. Having a pup cooped up inside all day it'll either make him lazy and out of shape or send him up the wall. Especially with a herding breed.
This breed is build to move. Take him to a local leash free park or one where the people are looser on the leash law. Make sure that he'll come when called (train that first) then just let him run for a bit. Heck you could even play fetch. That puts all the running in him he needs ^^. And you don't really need to run with him.
You've got to be creative and willing to get this dog outside and exersized. He's depending on you.
Good luck, hope this helps.

You really need to start out by walking him daily and then eventually working your way up to bike riding with him running along side if thats what you desire. I would prefer for safety for you and the dog that you would stick to good walking routine in daylight hours and then jogging with him along side you as you build strength. Good Luck !!
I don't know how it would be safe, he would start chasing everything if you taught him to chase your bike and a kid on a bike might get scared and it could be bad for you. Could you maybe put him on the website for rescuing Aussie's? I know it's hard but they really need space and if you are that busy and have the other dogs it might be best for him. He deserves to be able to run and have space. Other than that I think you may stress yourself out. Don't you hate taking other peoples responsibilities? I have had to do that myself and I know how you feel. Just do the right thing for you and the dog now and not worry about your sister. Good luck!
start out slow where not a lot of people walk and teach him or her to stay on one side keep him or her on a short leash and start out in small areas and smal amounts of time
Alternatively, if your dog is reliable at coming back, find a large open field, such as an off-leash park, or soccer fields (they may not exactly allow dogs - best be careful, check the rules, clean up after the dog) and allow the dog to run.. Especially if you have more than one dog (go with a friend!) the dogs will go running together, play, and you can just watch them (or do homework, make phone calls, etc, so long as you keep a good eye on where the dog is) during that time. My dog is pretty reliable, so I just let her go and she runs around for however long she wants, and then heads back to the car. If you can find an open field, try it with a 25-ft lead or a lead tied to a long length of twine or rope, initially.

How can I teach my dog to bark and growl when I order him to?

He really doesn't do it too often, but I know he can.
Answers:
My favorite way to teach a bark is to tie the dog to a post and get them really excited, encouraging them to have fun with you while you are just out of reach of the line. Continuously give a bark command in an excited voice, and eventually you will get a bark. Reward with a treat when you do. My dog was never much of a barker, and this method got him barking on command, and didn't seem to increase his regular barking. Growl on command is possible, but you don't want to initiate aggressive behavior. After the dog is barking well, pick a new command (I use woof) and say it in a playfully growl voice, alternating it with the speak command. This will get the dog making noise, and when he hears you using a playful woof type of growl, he will respond with a playful growl back.
hmm, well, i dont know
Barking you can teach. Just give him a command, like "Speak", and then reward him when he does. He'll catch on sooner or later. Growling is aggressive behavior that precedes an attack, so you don't really want to encourage him doing that. I used to have a huge wolf mix who never growled, except for twice when kids tried to jump me. He was great about reading my body language, and I didn't have to say anything at all. Don't worry, if you're good to your dog- he'll have your back when you need him.
Dont even try

How can I take away the pee smell of my dog from my carpet?

He spends all day in the garden but sleeps with me on my bedroom and I guess when I don麓t see him, he pees because my carpet is starting to have a weird smell (although there are no stains on it). Any suggestion that really works will be appreciated
Answers:
Get rid of the carpet. For real. Even if you can get out the odor so it doesn't bother you, your pooch will still be able to smell it and continue to pee there.
There may not be visible stains, but once you pull up the carpet and see the underside, you'll understand how extensive the damage is.
Vinegar
i would try WASHING IT
Go to petsmart and by something called nature`s miracle.
(P.S Try potty training him.)
if you look at petsmart or petco they will have some thing called natures miracle stain and odor removal. if not at those stores check around to the pet stores near you. it works great for me while training puppies.
Odor B Gone or Nature's Miracle
Tear out the carpet and replace the pad underneath. The pad is what has the urine odor in it now.
Until you get the smell of pee out of the carpet, he will keep peeing on it too. Even if you can't smell pee, his nose probably can. The only way to clean it well is with vinegar as they won't/can't smell through vinegar. Wash it well first with carpet cleaner then with a clean rag wash it with vinegar/water. :)
Try a product called Odor Mute. You can find it at feed stores or some pet supply houses carry it.
i had the same problem and i used peroxide and mixed it with downy and it worked great
You may try sand, salt, baking soda, this will pull the urine up but you'll still might have the odor. He needs to be potty trained ASAP or he'll keep doing it over and over. Use some puppy pads if unable to take him out. Also you can take up his water a few hours before bed time. There are all kinds of ways to get the odors out. Try to clean the carpet with a stem cleaner and some great smelling cleaner.
Best wishes.~smiles~..
PetZyme - from PetSmart. I have a Pit Bull and a Chihuahua (enough said). It works on furniture, carpet, all kinds of floors, it even works in your car.
Vinegar

How can I stop my yorkie from peeing in one particular area?

I cannot seem to get to stop peeing in one area. I have steam cleaned the carpet and sprayed it with some spray from the pet store but nothing seems to work. He is well potty trained (well used to be) . He always barked or lick when he needed to go outside. Please help me I cannot take the smell anymore!
Answers:
It is obvious that the urine has penetrated way down into the carpet padding and as long as the smell is there your yorkie will go thereFirst pour straight Vinegar and thoroughly soak the carpet-should not harm the fibers nor disturb the color(s) but to make sure can test a small area on the edge of the carpet-15 minutes should be sufficient to confirm safe or not. Also block that area of the carpet so your yorkie cannot get to it or even close to the urined carpet area. Vinegar destroys bacteria, odors, mold and mildew and is also a antiseptic. I havea used vinegar on cat urine, rabboit urine--and often all I needed. The one time it didn't went to Petsmart but Petco or any other Petfood,Petstore should carry it-) unfortunately can't rmember the name but comes in a tall container-and for carpet is a power Enzyme Cleaner---the Enzyme Agents seek out the odor/bacteria---protein(all urine, feces, blood etc is protein based)and literally eat/destroy the source of the odor and Voila If no bacteria/Protein then no odor----you leave it on the carpet for 24hours-also block the Yorkie, any animal for going .it although is safe non-poisonous, non-.toxic and no harsh detergents and then vacuum it up.Your carpet smells fresh and it is clean. For non-carpeted floor it comes in a liquid. It costs approx $17.00 but well worth it and just a little amount is needed to do the job. It is not the only product available at petstoresNot Walmart or K-Mart or any of the Grocery Stores for do not always work. More than likely he had a accient or do not allow friends to bring their doggies and leave them access to roam the house for even another dog or cats urine will hold the same attraction to urinate there-instinct. Hope I helped-best of luck
I wonder if you put a litterbox there he would go in there? Well at least it might help the smell?

Hope this helps?
use vinager to clean the area with.. Should also stop him from going back and peeing in that area.. A steam cleaner won't take the smell out.. dogs noses are more sensive.. also you could start feeing him in that area.. dogs will not go to the bath room where they eat..
Well have you ever tried vinager. it works i used it with my pup and it stopped peeing in that area.
I had this problem with my hound. God help you, it's awful! The only thing that helped was that I had to first, thoroughly clean the area. Then, block that area off completely from your dog. Close doors or use baby gates. Whatever it takes. Your dog has developed a very bad, habitual habit. Once you are comfortable that your dog does not want to use the area again, you can remove the gates or open the doors. This will take months (3-6 at least). For extra safety, run to Walmart and get a plastic runner to cover the area, just in case he runs straight to it and does it again. Good luck.
Is your yorkie crate trained. If not now is the time. And the suggestion of putting his food there (after cleaning well) is a good one. I have used that on cats before and it is very effective, I don't see why it wouldn't work on dogs too.
Mothballs in the spot.
try "get serious" dog pee solution.it really is the best for this! i buy it at petsmart.

And yorkies are kind of lazy and finicky.i happen to have two.

might have to start letting him out more often and on a schedule.
once it's in the carpet..theres no getting it out. put dog pants on him with a pad in it and they don't like peeing in there pands and it stops them.i have 8 yorkies and i breed them so they try to have a hike fest.but that put a stop to that. good luck
First I would restrict him from that area and see if he finds another place. If not, you will know he is well.
Are you home with him during the day? If so you could make him stay in the same room with you so you can keep an eye on him. You MUST be consistent and when he starts to go to that spot make a sound, clap your hands, use a clicker to distract him and then take him outside right away. Meanwhile have your carpet cleaned by a pet carpet professional, and perhaps you could put his bed, food, or toy box in that spot until this behavior ends. I really hope this helps you %26 pup get along again. I have two Westies and sometimes the simplest distraction is the answer to avoiding potentional problems.
The reason your dog keeps on peeing in the same area is because it smells the urine. Alot of products get rid of the stain, but not the odor. I suggest getting a powerful cleaner. If it is a horrible stain you might have to higher a professional carpet cleaner, It might cost more, but if there is no other way you just might have to do it.

Hope this helps,
KS
Yes, Try this I have recommended it on this site before. No animal likes to eat where they potty. Place his feed %26 water dish on the spot he's peeing and feed him there til u get success. It may be akward but feed him there at least 3 days. after u remove the dish Watch the area gaurd it constantly if he looks like he is looking to pee place the dish back there. But u want to be talking to him if you think he's headed there have his food dish in your hand and use the tone u used when u 1st pottytrained.

how can i stop my staffie x from eating my fridge?

he is 15 months old and has destroyed my fridge and freezer also eaten the contents, whilst shut in the kithchen when i am at work
Answers:
Hes doing it out of boredom you have to start taking him for a walk in the mornings before going to walk this will calm his mind, then hide little treats in toys so he has something to play with also leave him a bone.
shoot it
beat the hell out of him
Keep him in a crate. Give him more exercise as well as some obedience to stimulate his mind - he sounds very bored and frustrated.
Set up an electric fence.
You mean hes eaten the fridge itself, or the contents??

how about not locking him in the kitchen, or putting a lock on the fridge
A staffy isn't the kind of dog you should leave alone all day. Can't you find someone to take him out while you're at work? It sounds like he's lonely and bored, poor baby x
Go to dog training classes and you will be taught how to let your dog know who is the boss. He obviously thinks it's him.
Ive got a staffie cross and he used to chew everything in sight when left alone, the reason they do it is boredom and to get your attention even if its negative attention. A dog really shouldnt be left alone for any length of time. your gonna have to find some way of occupying him even if you just pop back in your lunchtime to give him a quick walk.
muzzle the little twat or knock its teeth out
spray your fridge all over in a spray which deters them from licking stiches you can get it from your vet or shut your dog in one room when you go out if its a massive problem
been through it myself with my cross breed staffy called mojo~ she made tunnels in my bed and ate a bit of it too!
Boredom ad teething i put it down to, mine had all the chew sticks in the world didn't even get left on her own that much, pleased to say 2 years on a have a new bed and its all in one piece and mojo is a little angel now!
i have got a staffie and she was terrible for chewing things up.try putting him in a large cage when you are not there.if it helps my dog stopped chewing when she was 2 years old.good luck.
Roast him. Alternatively you could, as has been previously suggested keep him in a crate or in a room where the fridge isn't. An early walk would also help. If you cannot do any of these, enjoy your roast dinner.
Hi. Does sound like he is bored, the Kong treat/toy is very good, and if you leave other toys ( safe) around he may amuse himself.
you can buy chewing deterents, but the simplest is to smear a little mustard to the edges of the fridge..only a little. and make sure he has plenty of fresh water down. have you considered getting a dog walker ? to break up his day. maybe a friend could pop in to check on him ? crates are good but i wouldnt advise you put him in for the whole day.
the poor thing is lonely, try leaving the radip on and some toys to play with and a good big marrow bone to chew on, but make sure there is nothing he can break of the bone because he could choke, never give him any other type of bone as they can splinter and do untold damage internally
staffies are renouned for chewing . buy a cage for it if ur not out the house for long , it must be big enough for the dog to turn around comfortably mind . he is bored thats all !
