how can i stop my dogs claws splitting?

my 6month old puppies claws are splitting can i give her any vitamins to stop this

keep the nails well trimmed, it could be that they are brittle, acting like human nails do. my dogs nails done this until she was fully grown. make sure to wash your dogs feet if they get muddy also, if the split gets too bad and goes to the quick the last thing you need is mud in it and for it to get infected. try using some fish oil in its food, not only will it help with nails it also works wonders for the coat and joints.

She is just growing, it will happen until she becomes fully grown. But go to the vet and as for some antiseptic, so if they bleed she does not get an infection.

Needs extra fish oil and calcium, you could also try walking her on a hard surface like the pavement/road it helps to strengthen them.

Thats a new one. I would try some type of thick lotion and or maybe an oil. If they are splitting they are probably dry. If it hurts to much take him to the vet.

First off, keep them trimmed. Buy some guillotine style dog clippers for this as dog's nails are usually much too strong and thick for human nail clippers. Make sure you don't cut the pink part inside the nail. This vein (the quick) will bleed profusely and be very painful for your dog if it's cut. Keep some styptic powder around to stop any bleeding in case of an accident. And don't feel bad if there IS an accident; I know how to trim animals' nails, and have ended up with many accidents due to them jerking their feet and such.

Walk the dog on the pavement to strengthen the nails, and talk to your vet about what you can give her as far as supplements. You want to be careful with them because she's still a puppy..so there may be different formulations. And too much calcium can bind a dog up. So just call the vet and ask:)

That's something i have never heard off. What i would do is ring the vet and ask them just over the phone what could be happening to your puppy's nails. It sounds strange, they should be able to tell you what the best thing to do for your puppy with out any cost.

It could be a fungal infection that she has picked up. Your vet can give you some good treatment for this but it needs to be started early to prevent permanant damage so if its been going on for a while take her to the vet asap.
