How can I stop my puppy from peeing in the floor?

I have a 12 week old Pomeranian who just doesn't seem to get the idea of peeing outside yet! I've had him for about a month and been very strict with the training. When he has to poop, he scratches on the door and goes outside (never has any inside poop mistakes!!). However, with peeing, he only scratches to go out about half the time. When he does make a mistake, he gets yelled at and spanked and put in the crate. He knows he does wrong before he even gets yelled at because he immediately runs from me. But he still does it. Maybe he's just too young and doesn't always know when he has to pee? Any advice at all from those who have been there?

Or am I doing everything I can and he will grow out of it soon?

PS: He is crate trained and gets a TON of praise/loves when he does good.

Thanks!

buy some puppy pads you can get them in any supermarkets. put one by the door or where the dog wees the most. move it near to the door everyday. but the packet will tell you what to do. the vet recommended them for us and it worked like a treat. good luck .
Don't wait for the pup to let you know he wants out - TAKE him out every 3 hrs or so and PRAISE when there is success. I would avoid hitting - for any reason - it's not a good training method. Good luck. ~Nise~
it might sound cruel, but rub his nose in it. he'll stop.
First off do not use the kennel for disaplend. this is your puppies refuge. Young puppies are still developing thier bladder muscles and it does take longer to learn to always pee outside. Remember, dogs crave attention good or bad. when he does have an accident just take him outside and tell him potty. You have to teach a command so he knows what to do. be persistant. Everything will work out.
put some newspaper down before he goes, it's only temporary. Once he learns how to go pee outside, you can pick it back up.
First of all, DON'T hit the puppy! All that does is make him afraid of you! DON"T use the crate as a form of punishment! That is supposed to be their "safe" place where they go to get away from things. Your puppy, being a toy breed, should have stayed with his mother until he was 12 weeks old.

You have to be consistent. Take him outside more frequently. He's only a baby and he's so small. He only has a tiny bladder and besides, most dogs aren't fully housetrained until they are around 5-6 months old. At 12 weeks old, they are just starting to ba able to control their bladder and bowel functions. There could also be a medical reason that he is peeing inside. He could have a bladder infection or possibly worms. He could also need to go poop and may be getting confused as to which area needs to be relieved.

DON'T rub his nose in it either! That also makes him fearful of you!
Patience and consistency are the answers!
Well first thing you are confusing your poor little puppy.
He is crate trained, which means his crate is a place to go to be comfy and secure, but then you say you yell at him HIT him and put him in his crate.
He is also running from you, which says he does not trust you. If this intimidation from you continues your dog will run from you someday out in a park etc. and your dog will be gone..
Your puppy does let you no he has to go. You said he scratches at the door. At least he is dong it some of the time, which means he is learning. Put in a puppy door if the training you are doing is not going to change. Otherwise try training with love, attention..get to know your puppies "cues" when he has to go.he will give them. He is very young still, you have only had him for 4 weeks.
Good luck..
