how come my dog wont?

my dog wont take a poo out side but he will on the deck ! he has no problem peeing out there
Answers:
He is afraid to leave his scent too far from safety..he does it near the house, as he won't leave it in the yard for the boogieman (any predator) to find..and be able to follow him home..
this is from old instinct to only leave scent where the parents are in control of any predators..
Most dogs will get bolder and less insecure as they get older..

try putting sand down for him, near the deck. dogs like to go in sand, and it is easier to clean up..remove poo each time, before he goes there again..a bag or two of sand from any garden center is enough..
Is your grass too long? Is your dog a puppy? Is your dog small or short? Most dogs don't like to feel the grass touch their under bellies while pooping. I trained my dog to poop and pee in less than a week but I was with her the entire week, took her out every hour and gave her a verbal and treat reward after the accomplishment. Dogs will always poop on a morning walk. Take the dog out on a walk in the AM and when the dog needs to poop be sure he is in the grass and reward him for it. You will also need to show him the grassy area in your yard for him to poop in and when he does reward him for it. It will take some time but if the dog is a puppy they out grow the pooping on hard surfaces after a year if that is any help.
He likes the smell of the wood! You know how dogs sniff an area and decide its a good place to dump a load?! Well there is stuff you can buy at pet shops and hardware stores that will turn your dog off from dumping there. It gives them a bad smell and they won't do it.
!/ a dog will smell around until he smells his toilet, then will go near the other spot. Did you think to move his scent to a spot near where he pees, so he will smell it there and go there?
2/ Now go to the dack and clean it up and deoderize it so he can not smell his mistaken bathroom out there. If there is cracks between the boards, then spray in there too. They are awfully good at tracking even their poo. I know it is work , but someone had to do it, right? Good Luck with this job.
