I have a shih-tzu and when we bathe her at home, she only smells good for about 1-2 days. We take her to the groomers and she smells great for about 2 weeks. How do they do it??

Hi, Im a dog groomer. I would say that the shampoo you are using at home makes a big difference, and also, grooming shops spray perfume on dogs. There are all different types of grooming shampoos to buy, i would ask your groomer which one they use, and where they get it, and go with that.
My mom's a groomer and she uses and cologne called Fresh-n-Clean. It's a great product.
Also, drying is -key- in a good smelling dog. Shi-Tzus have fine-ish hair if I remember correctly, but such a quantity on such a small dog can be a challenge. Towel drying isn't always enough, so be sure to use a dryer, as in hair dryer on high setting if she's okay with it.
Also, your pup may have a skin or ear problem that makes her stinky. Take her to the vet's for a checkup jsut to be sure.
Or, ask the groomer what she does to make the pup smell nice :)
i will give you some advice when you go to the doggie cleaners ask if u may purchase the shampoo they use on your dog and also if you dont blow dry your dog theres another reason i dont no why but when i started to blow dry my dog the nice clean dog smell lasted a extra week i hope this helps!!
It depends on what you want him to find you can put out an aid like a toy an tell him to search an when he finds it praise him a lot an just keep doing this it becomes a game to him.It will get him to foucs on the task you want him to do.
I know you may think this sounds crazy, but it works great for my dogs, and that is head and shoulders, it smells really good, and it is good for the pet dander, and it keeps my dogs smelling good for quite a while, and they are a boston terrier and an english bulldog. goodluck to ya!
I'm a dog groomer and also have 2 Shih-tzus. Just make sure you're using a good quality dog shampoo and make sure you are rinsing her completely when you bath her at home; pay special attention to the armpits and the belly, these are 2 areas that are harder to rinse the soap off of. If you don't rinse her properly she will smell sooner and it can make her skin itchy too.
Ask them to give u a bottle of that pleasant smelly stuff. My dog gets hydro bathed and he has this pink smelly stuff that i bought from them.
You may want to change the shampoo your are using, and most pet stores carry sented sprays you can use for your dog, to keep it smelling better for longer. Most groomers use a spray or perfume on the dogs.
