there are 6 of them, 1 female only.how to choose the smartest?
Answers:
Trust me on this one
Let the puppy choose YOU
get them all out in a normal sized room
( be sure you do not smell of food or this will not work )
Now lay down on your stomach off toward a corner of the room and get them all to come to you---play with them for a short time and let them do what they're going to do--- in a very short while-- YOUR puppy will choose you--- it will be obvious and very clear-- This is the dog you are going to have a great life with --- period !
I have owned some to the world's finest companions in my lifetime and this method has never failed me a single time in walking away from the process with the absolute best dog I could have chosen on my own by any other standards ---period !
choose the female!..seriously they seem to be smarter.or at least not as wild as the male ones
I have chosen a puppy based on research and the "puppy test" First check over the health of them and know the breed your selecting. Do your homework. Next select the puppy and put them on their back and hold them down on the floor gently holding them down. A good puppy will not be complacent to just sit there or over violent but will struggle just a bit. This is a good puppy according to that test. You may wish a certain tempermant also. and If your getting a male make sure you neuter so he dosen't have a big desire to mark his territory or go nuts when he sees dogs in heat.
Go and sit near them and watch them for a while. You dont want the most aggressive one.that one will be hard to train. You dont want a timid one either. You want one that is relatively quiet but not scared to join in with the rest. See which one approaches you and notice what it does. Does it look at you when you speak to it or cower away? You want one that is alert and seems to want to please you. Pick it up and check it all over.turning it this way and that. Does it growl or accept it? You want one that accepts you are the leader. Good luck with your puppy.
Gender doesnt make any difference, but how they interact with the others is the best test for them..You don't want the one that is a bully to the others, or fights them back to have your attention. You don't want the one that hides in the corner, and seems fearful of the others, but the one you want plays well with the others, and is outgoing and friendly towards people.
Now, the bully just may be the smartest, but he is stubborn and the hardest to train..The shy one is also hard to train for different reasons.especially to potty train..
It is a falacy that males are more rowdy and wild or less intelligent! All of the TV/Movie stars, such as Lassie, Eddie, Benji, RinTin Tin, Air Bud, etc are males..
Males do just as well in K9 police training and guidedogs for the blind, etc..
Scroll to the bottom of this page and watch the video, and tell us if a female could be any smarter than Rookie..a male..> http://www.gottadance.landofpuregold.com.
I was all toll female are Samartest them male so the 1 is smar them the 5
My Dad had bred dogs all his life and he says .let the pup choose you, just stand there and let the puppy walk up to you.
Good Luck
it all depends on the breed of dog, some dogs don't have to be the smartest puppy to be smart with some training.
i chose my dogs by letting them choose me. I went into the area where the mother was with her litter of 13 and knelt on the floor and let the puppies come to me. we purchased the ones that came up straight away.
generally they are the more people friendly, and may well be the smartest.
puppy pre-school also helps with all dogs.
I don't allow anybody to "choose" one of my pups. *I* know them.the buyer DOESN'T!
Just cuz they want the smallest red bitc-h does NOT mean it's the CORRECT MATCH! And if the temperament isn't that CORRECT match, they AREN'T getting that pup.
AND..if they have kids under 10 %26 not fenced(W/REAL fence!),etc.,etc..they don't get one AT ALL!
The one that's is more quieter is probably the one for you or go with the one that takes a liking to you.
