How can prepare my house for a new puppy?

i will get my puppy in about 3 to 4 days.. and I want to get my house ready for the puppy's arrival. What are some good ways to get both the house and myself prepared?
Answers:
Our "puppy" turned 8 months old today, and I think our best investment from the beginning was a crate. If you start your new puppy the first day getting used to his/her crate, they will grow to love it. It will become their place of security - Home Sweet Home!

Another must have is plenty of chew toys. You can never have too many. We keep a small basket on the floor in the living room for Cody's toys. He knows where to go when he wants to play with one. (Now, if only I could train him to put them back!)

Best of luck to you! Enjoy your new puppy!
get some training and lecturing tools. puppies need to be disciplined when young or they will get a habit of doing bad things. for the house, i have no suggestions except to go buy one thats comfortable.
OK i did the same thing. you just go to like borders and get this book called THE ULTIMATE DOG BOOK. it has everything you need to get a dog and how to travle with them and everything
This is an EXCELLENT summary of what you need to do:

Make sure that there's enough space for it to run around and there's a place for it to sleep and put the leash next to the door for when you take it out to walk! Good luck with the dog!
buy lots and lots of chew toys or it will chew your furniture.
I love the use of a crate. My dog finds it as his safety spot. He didn't like it at first because he was locked in. Now, he loves to nap in it and use it as his get away spot.
Be sure house plants are up where the puppy cannot chew them. Be sure your yard plants are NON TOXIC to dogs %26 be sure your yard is well fenced with no little places for the pup to get out of. Be sure ALL electrical %26 phone cords are kept up out of reach. Be sure there is nothing laying around the pup can get a hold of %26 chew up that is not a doggy toy (try to avoid rawhide - pig ears %26 cow hooves are MUCH BETTER!). Be sure there is NO mouse poison or bug killer stuff on it..
some ways are to block off areas that have important items with small pet gates. you should also have a designated area that the dog would go to the bathroom in so he/she could know why he/she is there.and for you , you need to have a lot of time to play, feed, walk, and especially keep an eye on the little dog because you don't know how much trouble they could get in when you turn your back.

Good Luck : -)
1 suggestion i have learned VERY well : Keep all doors closed and the rooms the puppy is allowed in keep EVERYTHING off of the floor that is small enough for puppy's mouth to fit on or around. :D This is a very well-learned lesson at my house. I have lost any number of flip flops sue to my aunt's dog. :) hope this helps!
Take EVERYTHING you care about, or want to keep and put it in a cupboard about six feet off the floor. If you like it, and you leave it on the floor or within reach, you have only yourself to blame when your puppy destroys it totally.

If they can't reach it, they can't destroy it. If they can reach it, they chew it.
1. never leave anything on the floor that you dont want the puppy to chew on.
2. leave lots of chew toys and things all over the house, then he will chew them instead of furniture.
3. Dont have cleaners or other toxic things on the floor or where puppy can reach them.
4. Take a class at Petco or Petsmart, they are great!
5. Be ready to take the puppy out to P after each meal, and every two hours all day and about 3 times at night. Yes you will have to wake up several times at night. But not for long!
6. The puppy pee pads you get from the store work great for times when you cant go out.
7. Dont take the puppy to public places until it has its shots.
8. be ready to be loved loved loved! Yay!
Get a bottle of apple-bitter spray, spray it lightly around electric wires, house plants, front of closet, or other room you don't want your dog to get in. keep away any house cleaners, bug sprays or traps, Auto liquid ANTI FREEZER.
A baby play pan works great to give your dog safe space to play with it's toys.

Be prepared yourself to love unconditionally!
It's so worth it!
