how cold is too cold for my border collies?

Answers:
Much depends on their shelter. If it is only rain protection, then under 35 degrees is miserable. but, if they have a building, or an insulated Igloo, they can be outside safely to about 30 degrees. In such as a barn, they can go even a little cooler..If they cuddle to sleep, it keeps it warmer for them too..so much depends on their situation..
Walk out side, are you cold? That's probably a little too cold for them. Dogs are domesticated and shouldn't be left outside away from their pack. Some dogs just prefer to live outside (or so I've heard) but I have never seen one.
Even with fur coats, dogs are a lot like people. Assuming your border collies have long hair, I don't think you'd need jackets/sweaters for them unless you lived where it gets *really* cold (like parts of really northern US and most anywhere in Canada).

If you must leave them outside for extended periods of time, please make sure they have a warm, dry shelter/dog house to go into with either warm blankets or at least some dry, clean hay. No dog wants to be unprotected from the cold so as long as they have shelter and aren't kept out in weather that's below freezing they shouldn't be *too* cold.

Though, personally, my dogs are inside dogs (they go out for play and bathroom) so from my experience, they go out a little during the coldest days but they usually want to get right back inside!
