My dogs sinus could use a good cleaning out. She was recently run over and seems to have some dried blood %26 mucus in her nasal cavity that's just driving her nuts. anyone have any ideas on how to help her? I have used a needleless syringe to put some warm water down both her nostrils but that did not seem to help as much as I thought it might! HELP!

Hello - I'm sorry that you had the trauma of your dog getting hit. In the long run, it may be the best thing for her. My dog was hit by a car (thank God it had just pulled out from a stop, so it wasn't going fast) He was banged up a bit (went to the vet %26 had him checked) no broken anything, and the best thing was - he was afraid of cars for the rest of his life and stayed away from the road. I never had to worry about him again!
To answer your question, I would try a nasal flush that you can purchase at a drug store (the type they used for Firefighters after 9/11). They aren't expensive. Then, once it's loosened up, encourage your dog to sneeze by giving her pepper, etc to sniff. I hope that this works.
it would prob be best to take her to the vet and have them show you what you should do.
A puff of fine-ground pepper powder blown in her face (toward the nose rather than the eyes) should make her sneeze.. which should clear her nose out somewhat. If it doesn't work enough.. do it again, or find some finer particulate matter.
Its a lot better than trying to hold her down and shoot stuff up her nose.
Incidentally, those who advise against this clearly can't be relied upon. Its the natural way of doing things (since sneezing is the inbuilt means of removing unwanted material from the nose), and inherantly more likely to succeed than all those crazy and unnatural alternatives that others will come up with.
Please tell me that you brought her to the vet. If not, she needs to be seen.
If she already has been seen, then call the vet and ask what they recommend. They might tell you to wet a q-tip with warm water and gently wipe out the dried stuff without going to deep, but I'm not a vet so I really don't know.
Please do not blow pepper up your dogs nose. She's already injured, she doesn't need anymore pain. Not to mention that it will most surely get in her eyes.
