how cold is to cold for border collies?

they r outside at night and all have heated dogs houses , but do run around all day , but when is it to cold for them when they r at play .

Aside from being highly energetic, BC's are very smart. They know their limits and at times more than we do. Same applies for any breed I think. Since they are running around all day they seem to be keeping themselves warm, and physically fit.

At night, it might get cold but they are 'tough' dogs naturally. You stated they have heated dog houses; thus I wouldn't be so concerned unless the temperature seems too extreme. But since you also stated there is more than one dog in the territory, I can say that if they feel a little colder than usual they might just gather together and cuddle during the night. It also helps keep them warm. I can't say for sure since I do not know the size of the dog houses or how cold the area gets.

Also note if the dogs act the same during the winter as they do in the summer. Note the behavior and diet. If you have any worries contact the vet and ask. But I agree with the others in the sense that BCs are very hardy dogs.
If they have a heated place to retreat to, I wouldn't worry about it when they are out to play. BC's are outdoor kind of dogs. Our puppy wants to be just out all the time. They'll go and get warm when they need to.
border collies are an old breed of dog. they are used to spending thier days and nights out in the field herding sheep, cows, goats ect. They are a very hardy breed of dog. It would have to get pretty darn cold for it to effect them, like WAY below freezing
As long as they play it isn't to cold, dogs are very intelligent animals and would go in their houses if they were cold. Make sure to periodically check that your dog houses are working properly.
where do you live? where i live in montana, winters are to cold to leave them out side even during the day. if it is below zero, dont leave them out to long. but each breed is different, a husky prefers the cold, a small naked dog will freeze to death.
