she was prescribed weeks course antibiotics. other symptoms gained during last 3 weeks - heavy breathing, lack of interest in food, tired. On saturday her breathing was really bad , we brought her to the Vet hospital and she died just as we pulled up. I think she had a more serious illness and not kennel cough at all. Other symptoms were going no. 2 alot. and coughing specks of blood a little. has anyone else had this experience. She was gold labrador 11 and a half years. Thank you.

Without knowing more, I'd have to agree with ann a.
Bordatella by itself is typically a relatively mild infection and will often go away on its own. But, many dogs are susceptible to opportunistic infections, which is likely why your vet gave the antibiotics. Antibiotics won't cure Bordatella (kennel cough) but it hopefully will keep other infections from setting in, which in this case it didn't seem to be enough treatment. Pneumonia, which is not the same thing as the flu, and is in fact a "symptom" itself of a variety of lung infections, often sets up in sick, especially old, dogs, and it is difficult to treat.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
your dog has dog flue and yes if y don't treat it your dog will die. My moms dog had it 2 years ago and she died because of it they told us their was nothing wrong and when we looked up dog flue she had all the symptoms. the symptoms are coughing don't eat cant get comfy runny nose
Sounds to me like she definately had something more going on than just kennel cough. Sometimes things like cancer dont present themselves until it is too late. That is what happened to my bulldog. He had a tumor bleeding out on his spleen.
The vet probably did the best they could without some really aggressive x rays, sonograms or something like that - did they do all of that and bloodwork too?
I believe your dog did only have kennel cough. Considering the age of your dog, the disease caused an infection that most likely poisoned his blood. I do apologize for your loss, and i know how it feels to loose a dog to Kennel Cough. My first dog died at 2 years from it.
Kennel cough" which is bordatella is an opportunistic infection. It allows the invasion of other infections that make the animal sicker - things such as bronchial condition - bronchitis/pneumonia.
Bordatella is NOT the 'flu'. It is a respiratory infection.
Think of the sequence of events as a human getting a virus that turns into bronchitis that turns into pneumonia.
do you have ticks? did your dog also have bloody nose on occation? if so it could have been tick fever, dogs cough, with blood, tick fever makes them go into d.i.c. which is in simple terms like taking to much blood thinners and they bleed internally and from every where. sorry for your loss, i have had many dogs and lost many to, it is a sad thing.

I bred my chihuahua 1 week ago now she is being quite aggressive, is she pregnant?
Answers:
you won't know yet. she is going out of breeding period and doesn't want the male messing with her . it will probably last for another week.
she's provable pissed of at you because
of all the discomforts of pregnancies.
Usually the first signs of pregnacy are personality changes. It's her hormones! There is a good chance she is pregers.
highly likely!. it's common to notice a change in the behaviour of dogs when they get pregnant, due to hormones. just like people ;op
She's probably in discomfort, you shouldn't have bred her with that Great Dane!!
Shes probably recovering from losing her virginity.its a bit step..give her time!!

I bought Iam's for 50 lb Dogs by mistake. Can my 13 lb poodle eat it?
It's the larger sack and I don't know if it will hurt my little dog or not.. It's the Diet Control..
please help..I would give it to some one who has a bigger dog but don't know of anyone.
Answers:
It will be just fine for your little dog.. No major differences, other than the size of the pieces, and extra bone/joint health additives..they may even be good for your little guy..
If you have a food porcessor, you can give a pulse or two to break up the peices, to make it easier to eat..if he eats it fine, then no problem.
If your dog can chew it, it'll be fine. The pieces are probably bigger. That's the only difference. It just might be hard for your dog to chew the larger pieces.
If you have not opened it, you can exchange it at the store.
It shouldn't hurt your dog at all. The pieces of the dog food may be bigger though, making it harder for you 13 lb poodle to eat them.
If the dog shows no difficulty in actually eating the food, then there should be no problem at all.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
It can mold if left out. I would put it in freezer bags and put it in freezer. Take them out one ata time when you need them. Or take it back to store and exchange for the correct size.
mix it with some puppy formulated feed and your pet will be OK
the only thing is it may upset his stomach since he is not used to that brand of food.
You have already gotten two good answers. I agree with them!
Its basically the same dog food, just larger size chunks. Try putting it in your blender for a quick whirl, that should break it down to a better size for your smaller dog.
Take it back with your reciept. Your poodle probably can eat it, if it likes it and your poodle isn't on some type of restriction, but probably will go stale in the mean time before he can eat it all. Depends on your dogs appetite.
I'd take the whole bag back.
IAMS carried out horrific experiments to dogs and cats whilst 'testing' their products. They gave 100 lab cats kidney failure, fed them IAMS, looked at the results, then killed the cats..
I promise I am no tree top protester, but as an owner of 4 cats and 2 dogs, just couldn't believe my eyes and ears when I heard about this.
Go look for yourselves.
well how about you buy 100 pounds of "human food" double the size and see how much you can eat. but if i where you i'd just cut em' in half
It should be fine. Just compare the labels if you are really concerned. Usually the food for the bigger dogs is in bigger pieces. It should be fine. If you ahve some old food left I would recommend mixing the two at first so as not to change the food flat out which may cause a tummy ache (for your dog).
you would be better of feeding your dog sawdust than Iams products. analysis of Iams weight control
The primary ingredient in this food is a low quality grain (it should be meat!). Corn is a problematic grain that is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems. We prefer not to see this used in dog food.
The second ingredient is a named meat product but since this is chicken inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and this ingredient will weigh only about 20% of its wet weight once water is removed (as it must be to make kibble) it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list. Fish meal, at 6th on the ingredient list, is a second named meat product in the food, but this is far too low down to make up an appreciable portion of the food. We note that the manufacturer does not claim to use ethoxyquin-free sources (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic).

I bought a puppy..?
and the previous owners wanted her back within 2 days as thier son was so upset - we agreed and got our money back, now they keep harassing us by phone for the vets injection card - we ahve posted it but it doesnt seem to of got there - given them the vets name etc. but still they keep pestering us
What should we do?

If you've already given them the Vet name and phone number where you had the dog seen, they can pick up a copy of that information from the Vet themselves. Call your vet, and make them aware of the ownership transfer so that it will be easy for them to obtain.
Explain that the information must have been lost in the mail, suggest that they contact the Vet. Make them aware that you've made the changes with the office and request that they not contact you further as what they are doing is harassment.
You've been more than fair by returning the puppy. Your obligation has ended. Be firm, and let them know that you have assisted them as far as you can.
I think by you giving them the card was nice enough . You shouldn't have to give them anything ! You cant sell a dog then just decide to take it back !! NOT NICE !! You have done enough !! Now just ignore their calls eventually they will stop calling .
Hi try to get your vet to write a small letter for you.call them %26 make sure you have the correct address %26 code.put in in the mail with a return address so there is no reason for it to get lost at all.Just leave it at that %26 let them know after that point that you are not open to any further contact %26 tell them that you will leave the issue with a lawyer if they carry on harassing you.

mail it certified mail.
They may be experiancing problems with e-mails, accounts, etc.
The puppies health may be jepordized without the infor.
I don't think they would pester you for entertainment.
Try the human society. You will get a history of the pet and wont have to return it.
My pets have all been others rejects. My current mut is used in catalogs, photoshoots, ads, she loves the attention and really digs the studio, hard to believe this smart dog wasn't wanted.
Tell these people that you've got a new dog
a full grown trained Doberman
and if the calls don't stop
you're going to let them have THAT dog too !
At this point, it is no longer your responsibility. I think you were wonderful to return the puppy. If you feel like doing one more thing, then see if the vet can mail them the dog's records, if not.don't. If they keep harrassing you, seek your local law enforcement agency's advise.
congratulations
Explain the card was sent then give them the vet's name %26 address so THEY can take responsiblility for THEIR pet. You can call the vet's %26 let them know the animal has changed owners %26 a copy needs to be collected for the new owner's records. Your job %26 responsibility is done.
They have the vet's info, so just ignore them..You have done more than should be expected.tell them, its not my problem now!
you could try sending them another copy of the vets card via cerrtified mail, that way they have to sign for it at the po. Then you have proof you have sent it and after that if they continue to pester you tell them you are seeking legal counsel,Sounds like these are not people to do business with they are wishy-washy. Good luck
Sounds like they're just being holes. You gave them the name of the vet, I can't think of anything else that would be needed for them to obtain the information they're wanting. You sound like really nice people so don't let them abuse your good nature. You don't deserve it.
If you bought the puppy it was yours fair and square, it should not be expected that you give it back to them whenever its convenient, so in giving the puppy back you have done more than enough to suit their needs. You have given them all the details so it is up to them to obtain them if they were lost in the mail. i think next time that they call say " look this is harassment next time u call ill call the cops" usually its threatening enough, but if not either call the cops and tell them the situation, or with some telephone companies you can get certain numbers blocked from calling you, so maybe give Ur telephone provider a call and see whats available to you.
hope that's helped

quit answering the phone. If you gave her the number of the vet it is up to them to get the records. Did she pay for the shots or did she just sell him to you so that you could get the shots and then take him back. The only other thing besides a restraining order I could think of is to leave her number w/ the vet and see if they will call her.
Get their vet's name and fax number. Tell your vet the dog has a new owner, and ask your vet to fax the info directly to their vet with the new owner's name on the records. If that doesn't work, I'd ignore them.
If you purchased a pet from someone, had it vet checked and vaccinated, tell this person they can call the vet you used and they will give them a copy of its' records with your permission. Also after doing that if they still keep harressing you, tell them if they call back again, you will have them arrested for phone harrassment, and follow through with doing so.
Tell them to FOAD!
Wow. You are definately the bigger person here. You did NOT have to give the puppy back and you did. They should not teach their kid that he can have anything he wants by being sad and crying about it. They should teach him skills to deal with his sadness. You have done your part. Tell them you've had enough and are going to get a restraining order on them. You dont have to actually do it but just telling them you are, that should help them realize they are actually harrassing you.

i bought a German shepherd puppy today vomiting and liquid diarrhea?
the breeder said it is not sick just stress the dog came with antibotic she said that was normal is this normal
Answers:
The breeder does not have the medical training needed to determine whether your pup is sick or not.and cannot legally give you antibiotic for that puppy unless it was prescribed specifically FOR that puppy (with the pup's name on the container) by a licensed DVM.
What antibiotic, and what condition is it being given to treat?
A one-time occurrance of vomit and soft stool MIGHT be due to stress, change in diet, etc.but if your pup has liquid diarrhea, it's likely more serious than that. Could be worms, could be coccidia, could be giardia, could be rotavirus, distemper virus, coronavirus, or parvovirus. If it's just stress, your pup will be acting normally otherwise.playing, etc. But even if he is, you need to take him to your veterinarinan the minute they open their doors in the morning (call first, of course.)
No. Take your pup to the vet.
DO NOT let it get around any other pets you might have..First thing in the morning get it to the vet.
i would call your vet first thing tomorrow, if the breeder didn't give him any shots he could have parvo, and if his poop smells really bad, it is almost def. parvo, keep a good eye on him, it is not normal, and have fun with your new puppy when he gets better.
No, vomiting and diarrhea in a small puppy is NOT normal. It could be parvo which can kill your puppy. I would contact your vet.
This is not normal, take it back. Are to a vet.I would take it back if it was me.
NO Way definalty not normal antibiotics mean an infection or treatment of some type, not good i would take the dog to the vet ASAP and then ask the seller more questions,as it is wrong they have sold you a dog been so sick for a start let alone on antibiotics.Disgracefull how someone cant even be truthfull about there pets need
Hmm, doesn麓t seem normal to me! Stress does sound faily normal, but you don麓t treat stress with antibiotics.
I麓d make sure the dog drinks lots (keep a full dish of water under it麓s nose) and if it is not doing any better after by tomorrow morning take it to a vet.
If it doesn麓t drink take it to the vet sooner. Or if it seems to be getting worse in any way.
Take the puppy back to the breeder and insist on getting your money back. The breeder had to know the puppy was ill. If you do decide to keep it and get it well, make sure you save all receipts from the vet and vet reports. If the puppy dies, you will need to get a necropsy(autopsy) done. But the best thing to do is to take the puppy back and get your money back.
You're probably giving it the wrong food. My lab would have those symptoms and it was because it was getting the wrong types of foods. Make sure you don't give it any human food and try changing the type of food you give it.
NO that is absolutely not normal.we had a puppy die ,same symptoms, got it from a breeder!!
could be giardia a parasite -which is zoonotic meaning it could be passed to you!take it to the vet immediatley-a 24 hour er vet if you can
find one!
good luck, poor puppy,he doesnt deserve for this to be happening to him!
Thats not normal it can have worms or parvo or anything make sure the puppy isn't a round kids like babies. you never what that puppy has take it to the vet immediately or give it back to the owner and don't get another one from them. WASH everthing that puppy touch before you get a new puppy too. GOODLUCK
Many puppies catch parvovirus and /or coronavirus. The symptoms are what you describe. If that's what it is, it'll pass in a few days.
Anybody bringing home a new puppy should have it checked at the vet as soon as possible.
take the pup to the vets asap. could be poss parvo? whys it on antibiotics? it aint normal.
No, this is not normal, it could be parvo or a single cell parasite called coccidia, both can be deadly to pups, BOTH cause the same symptoms, I would go to the vet and have a parvo test and
fecal run, parvo is expensive and alot of puppies die, coccidia if caught early is easily treated with a product called Albon. It is your choice whether you take it back to the breeder or opt to keep the pup .. i hope it turns out well.
No it is not from stress. and no it is not normal. It sounds like the puppy has parvo and needs immediate attention. You could wait until the morning but why risk it or you can simply take the puppy back to the breeder and ask for her to return your money. and dont get another puppy from there and you could and should report her because that isnt cool. She knows exactly what is wrong with that puppy and thats out of line. So you dont move the pup around to much get on the phone and first call the breeder and tell her if she is going to pay for the vet or should you take the puppy back to her and get your money returned. If she acts stupid about it take the puppy to an emergency vet but call ahead of time so they will be waiting for you and then while you are there explain to the vet what the breeder told you and ask where you can report her , you do know that is a crime to knowingly sell an unhealthy puppy. What ever you decide get the pup some help like asap
Please call or take him to a vet. Puppies dehydrate quickly and can die. Why would the breeder even send antibiotics if nothing was wrong with the dog?
First thing when you wake up in the morning call the vet and see if you can get an appointment. If not find an er vet that is open 24 hours. IMPORTANT: If they tell you to put the dog down because it will never get better try to take it to a different vet. Also try to give it some pedialyte it works wonders for diahrea. It may also help with the vomitting. It is somewhat expensive but he is worth it right. So make sure if someone tells you to put it down. Dont do it. Give it pedialyte and give him some time. Time just may be the answer and it just may save its life.
If she gave you and antibiotic to give it once you got home, then she knew the puppy was ill. Vomiting %26 diarrhea is not normal for a healthy puppy. Parvo-is a nasty death on puppies!
I would return the puppy 1st thing in the morning to her.
It's not your problem to deal with. You need to report her to your Local Agriculture dept. She should not be alloud to sell puppies to the public in this condition.
No it is not normal that a dog be vomiting and have diarreah from stress. Feed it yogurt, just regular yogurt and force feed it if necessary and pedialite( yeah the baby pedialite). If you notice he has diarreah with blood in it then rush him to vet he mayhave parvo and parvo kills the bigger dogs faster. Watch him closely and force feed yogurt and pedialite with dropper from any walmart baby isle.
Absolutly not normal. The puppy could have worms, coccidia or any other thing wrong with it. Take it to the vet right away and take the medicine with you to show the vet. Some breeder GGRRRRR. Selling sick puppies to unsuspecting buyers with that line of c@#). To the vet or you might loose the baby.

I bought a doggie sweater for my German Shorthairred Pointer.she's cold when she goes out.anyone else?
Anyone else dress you dog for the dog's comfort? Grandma is laughing at me!
Answers:
My dog loves her sweaters! She is a 70lb who-knows-what. She had a lady bug costume last year for halloween, we had to chase her down to get it off of her. I guess she liked how she looked! Gets pretty warm down here (South Texas) so we don't dress her for warmth, more because I think she looks cute. Her fur keeps her warm/cool enough.
I do! Why NOt? I mean why do you think they make them? Not only are they cute but I think they actually do keep the dog warm. I mean they put snow shoes on mushing dogs. Sure it's not the same as a sweater, but what else are we supposed to do with our non-mushing dogs, lol just jokin. But I think it was a good idea. And like I said, it is cute! :)
Yes I've bought clothes for my pug to wear, she has dry skin year round and now it's winter, clothes actually help keep her from itching as much. Plus she loves it when she gets new clothes she's such a clown. Let your Grandma laugh, there are others out there that dress their dogs, some actually get paid to do it.
I bought more than one coat or sweater for my Boston Terrier. We live in Alaska and Boston Terriers do not do well with cold weather. She hated to wear them. If I took her in the car and left her for a few minutes, she always managed to get the coat off. She cowered down when she wore them, so I gave up. I just make sure we didn't walk too long in the cold. If it did get too cold, she would want to be carried. I would carry her and people would always stop their cars and ask me if the dog was injured and they would offer a ride. Your grandma would really laugh if she saw me walking down the street cradling a cold dog.
My beagle has a coat. If it's cold and she doesn't have it on she won't go outside. She is the only dog I have ever had to buy clothes for, but she looks very cute in it.

i believe my dog was starved, help!!?
i had my friends aunt watch my puppy for three weeks while i went on vacation. he is a 5 month old pitbull. when i left him he was healthy and vibrant and had lots of energy, he was a good body weight and very muscular. i came to pick him up today and he is skinny as * and very lethargic. he wont play he wont eat even when i try to give him his favorites. you can see that he has lots a lot of weight, almost can see his ribs, i dont think she fed him at all while i was gone. also his poop is liquid. he was fine when i left him, i dont know what to do now ot get him to eat again. he wont touch anything, he did however drink some water. any advice on how i can get him to eat again? please help.
Answers:
I don't think that the person starved him. I believe he has a disease, and needs a trip to the vet's clinic tomorrow..Really! He doesnt sound starved, he sounds really sick.
.If he was in her yard, it could be cocci, or even corona..there are many illnesses a pup can get, and he needs treatment fast if he is to have a chance of recovery.
Just because he has had his Parvo shots, it is no guarantee that he can't get it.. It has happened to mine..
Puppies are like babies when the mother is not around they fret. He may have fretted when you left him but i personally think you should take him to your nearest vet as soon as poss hun xx
Maybe your puppy has worms. Take him to the vet.
First of all you need to limit the amount of water and food your dog has access to. If an animal has been malnourished it will take some time for it to be able to eat normally again. You should feed him very small portions of both food and water. Besides that though you REALLY need to take him to the vet like today! There could be some other issues like parvo, or other bacterial infections (runny poop).
First of all, he needs to be checked by a vet asap. You need to get him to eat, maybe by trying bottle feeding him. Anyhow he needs medical attention. Your friend's aunt should be put in jail if she indeed neglected him.
Would you please take your dog to the vet right away? There are illness' which can create weight loss that your dog might have, especially if your dog has diarrhea, and your dog could be severely dehydrated also. This is very serious. Take him to the vet ASAP.
If it was the fault of your Aunt, your vet can tell you, and you will have a vet report to give the authorities.
Sounds like he was eating grass. It's pretty much like cabbage. Goes right through animals that are used to dry foods. It's a shame that happened. Luckily his survival instincts kicked in. I would document this and possibly press charges.
you need to give him nutrition, feed him with an eye dropper his liver may be failing if you dont give him nutrients he will die, get any thing you can in him sounds dehydrated too do it now before its too late. same thing happened to my puppy.
There are two diseases that it COULD be. Addison's or cushings.
Does you dog have hind leg weakness? The strange 'poop' is a sign too. that might be Addison's. Cushings, i dont really know much about. All i know about it is that it can be caused by a tumor. You need to take your puppy to a vet, either way. Even if you don't have the money, you can send it to the pound or drop it off at the vet. Most vets take care of hurt animals that are found and dropped off there, for a short time. Thats were i got mine.
You need to take that poor baby to the vet!! ;) Good Luck!
Your pup missed you so much and that can be why he didn't want to eat or couldn't really function, it was too shocking for him and traumatic, for a pup to be left by his dad or mom, he is like a baby, I strongly suggest you take him to the vet, so he can get the right medication/nourishment, your dog missed you and perhaps thought had lost you, he became depressed, you need to give him a lot of love and play with him take him for long walks and talk to him, show him you love him, he'll be back to normal, if your friend did not feed him the right food, that is obviously going to be a big problem, just give it about 3 days and he will eat again, it is important for the vet to determine what's wrong with the stomach. I hope your pup recovers very soon, poor baby!
First off - You have a puppy, that is a responsibility like a kid. You shouldn't have left him with your aunt for 3 weeks to go on vacation. If you couldn't afford a decent kennel, then you shouldn't have gone. Your aunt isn't a trained dog handler and might have done worse then not feed him. Like hit him, which is certainly not something to do to pit bulls, it will cause them to bite! Next time take the dog with you or go for a shorter amount of time.
Second - You should take him to the vet. He could have parvo, worms or something more serious. Make it up to him for being so irresponsible and get him the medical help he needs.
Don't look for someone to be responsible, it's quite common for pups to get sick. Get him to a Vet NOW, before you loose him. Just because he's sick dosen't mean someone mistreated him. Obviously he has some kind of puppy illness. Hope you figure this out before it's too late. Arum
Take him to the vet immediatly. He could have picked something up from your friends aunts house. Sounds like he's severely dehydrated. So you should take the proper precautions and take him to the vet.
The only thing I could think of besides him being starved is if he got a hold of something that has made him sick?? If he doesn't perk up soon, I'd take him to the vet. Sorry to hear your puppy may have been neglected, that is really sad!
This doent sound like he was starved (or he would be diving at food) this is illness. Pretty mommy is correct it sounds a lot like addisons (in which case vet treatment is the only thing that will save his life) but it could be 101 other things.
Leaving a dog in a strange houshold is stressy, and exposes him to grems that are not nessary exactlly the same as hes used to, so he would be more likely to get ill - no bodys fault just the way it is.

I believe my dog is ill but can't afford a vet. His symptoms are listed below. Any advice?
He's a black lab pup, 10 mos old. He has an obvious hip problem, constant diarrhea even with natural puppy formula food, and has low energy. His appetite is great, doesn't act ill, will play fetch and wrestle with my other dog but seems to tire easily. I want to get him treated but we can't pay a vet and I don't know what my other options are.
Answers:
Well the first thing I would do if I were in your position would be, to start, I would certainly drop off a stool sample at your vets office and have them check it for all parasites, as they can cause diarrhea in dogs (the cost should be minimal to do that), when you drop off the stool sample I would ask your vet if the food could be causing the diarrhea problem, it has been my experience that all foods don't work well for all dogs for example, my 10 year old border collie eats wellness senior, I have a friend with a 1 year old pit, she tried him on wellness and it didn't work well for him, he does much better on Eukanuba. You mention that his appetite is great, are you feeding once or twice daily? I would also check the ingredients on his current food to see if it contains several fillers, that will cause his diarrhea. As far as his hips go, I would have them checked, and X-Ray will show if he is going to have future problems, discuss it with your vet. I understand that you are having financial difficulties, it happens to the best of us. However, I would get your pup to the vet as soon as you can. I have looked up some helpful websites that offer help to people during financial hardships, if these do not work out, you can also look at some of the Labrador Retriever Rescue Group sites, they can also offer some assistance. I wish you and your pup well. God Bless.
first of all get him vaccinated, if he isn't already. this is really important. my pup almost died because i didn't vaccinate him. ad the bills for the hospital and him staying there for 6 days where expensive. so don't risk it. you want a healthy pup.
You cant aviod going to the vet if he has a hip problem or that will cause future damge, it could damage his spine if left untreated for it could bump against his spine, which could in return damage his internal organs, again that is the worst case scenarion, he may be in pain, that may be why he plays with the dogs but gets very tired or stops playing with them. For his diarreah, you can go to a pet store and get some medicine for him, they usually arent too pricy, but you need to get him checked out whenever you can afford too, but it i a top priority because he could end up in a sever amount of pain and thats never good, but check your local pet store for his diareah problem , oh he may get tired easily because he may have an iron deficiency which would cause petite, tiredness, and diarrhea, hope your puppy feels better!
If you can't afford health care for your pet, then you should not have a pet. Are you saying that there is absoltely no way that you can't cut something out of your expenses to get this poor animal some basic treatment? The next time you dine out, have drinks, watch cable TV or smoke, be sure to keep telling yourself that you can't afford basic care for your dog.
Try www.imom.org They provide people with grants to help pay for vet bills. (ADDED NOTE: Usually only will help out Non Profits, but can point you in the right direction of getting assistance in your area. ) Another thing to consider is that many vet offices will work out a payment plan - they understand how hard it can be to pay. Don't expect discounts, but ask about a payment plan. Also some areas have Vet teaching centers especially if you are located next to a University. They offer visits at a 50% discount and some of the medications they offer are almost 200% cheaper.
I hope your pup is doing better soon! Best of Luck!
(P.S. It kinda sounds like worms. Do you give him a de wormer?)
Diarrhea that lasts more than 24 hours can be dangerous. It can lead to dehydration which if left untreated can cause the organs to shut down.
If he hasn't had a checkup he needs to get one. He may have parasites, which can be confirmed by a stool sample.
Animals will not really act sick until they are too sick to act any other way. It's their natural defense mechanism. He will need to see the doctor. If you see he has an obvious hip problem, the vet should have noticed it at his first checkup (which he should have gotten along with his yearly vaccinations, before you brought him home to another dog). If this dog has parasites, your other one can get them too.
No soap box talk but..pet are going to cost money. If you can't afford the doctor bills for them, then you should reconsider having them.
Good Luck
You're going to need to give up some expense to pay for a vet visit. If you are not able to I suggest you turn the pup over to the humane society.
Have you had him vaccinated? If you haven't because you can't afford it.. well, you should have thought of that before you got the dog.
if you cant afford to take care of your dog when its not well then you shouldn't have a pet you cant let him suffer so call your vet and see if he Will treat the dog on the understanding you pay on a weekly term until the bill is paid if he is a good vet he shouldn't mind rather than allow the pet to go untreated that is your only option
I agree with "I ain't your momma". Most vets will accept a payment plan. I'm sorry that your puppy is sick and that it comes at a time when you are having your own medical and financial hardship. You have to realize that when anyone posts a question on here about not being able to afford a vet, all the people out there that think they are perfect and know it all, assume that you are a terrible pet owner and never had any money and they jump all over it and get on the warpath and you'll only get 1 nice helpful answer to every 10 from people that just want to criticize you. I agree that if someone is poor to begin with and has no intention of vaccinating or providing any medical care for their pet that they should not get one. But, unlike these b*tchy people, I also understand that people fall on hard times and it seems that bad things happen all at once. Maybe once you are back on a good financial track, you can consider getting veterinary pet insurance. It is inexpensive and comes in sooooo handy in times like this! I have known many a pet owner, who were good pet owners and not poor, be put in a difficult financial position due to illness of a pet. One owners dog, just for example, ate a pair of nylons and got a blockage and between the barium study x-rays, the surgery to remove the blockage and to remove the part of the intestine that was already necrotic, the hospital stay and medications, and all the aftercare, their bill was well over $3000.00. If all the people that put down everyone for not always having enough money to pay for emergencies can drop $3000 at any given time, bully for them, but I'd be willing to bet that they couldn't. That being said, good luck to you and your pooch:)
I'm sorry to hear about your dilemma. I understand how easy it is to get behind. If you can't work something out with the vet for payment arrangements some shelters offer medical for free or for cheap. In the meantime, when my boy had some stomach aches my vet had me feed him rice and hamburg, cooked for course. He loved it and got better right away. It gave me time to figure out it was the Iams food that was troubling him. Also you might consider ebay to earn a little extra cash. I hope you get back on your feet soon and your friend gets better real quick. BOL
Here's an article I was able to find that may help in a way that's manageable for your situation.
Canine Diarrhea: First, try small amounts of canned pumpkin (no other ingredients but pumpkin-see label), dispense one teaspoon to one tablespoon (depending on size of dog) once in the AM %26 another in the PM (tip: you can freeze the unused portion if you wish). Only feed your dog SMALL PORTIONS of bland food such as boiled chicken %26 plain white rice (no treats or dog food). If your dog will not eat the pumpkin (tip: drizzle with honey-it may change their mind), you can try Pepto-Bismol. HOWEVER, be sure to contact your veterinarian, Pepto-Bismol contains aspirin, which some dogs are allergic to. If you are certain your dog is NOT ALLERGIC to aspirin, dispense one teaspoon at a time, up to three times a day. Treatment should only be needed for 1-2 days. If diarrhea persists or worsens, contact your veterinarian.
If it comes down to the dog being so drastically ill that it needs vet care, as an absolute last resort, I'd feel remiss if I didn't mention that most shelters will accept surrendered dogs when their owners can't afford vet care.
I wish you and your pup the best of luck!
I understand about no money but if could be serious. Call the vet and talk to him. Maybe he can give some idea over the phone.
Sounds like he could have hookworm or possible heart worm. You can take a stool sample in to the vet and have it checked for parasites.
If something isn't done to find out what is wrong with him you may loose him. He can die from dehydration which the diarrhea will cause . Good luck. Oh yes, call the SPCA in your area and maybe they can help you. The hip problem could be dysplasia
Go to your local health food store and buy a bottle of rescue remedy, and give your dog a few 6-12 drops in the mouth. It will cost about AUS$25.00 , I don't know where you live. If you have a friend who is into homeopathy, she has something called NUX VOMICA in her kit, ask her to treat your dog. Probably won't cost you anything, I take care of my friends and neighbours animals, with positive results, I am also a Colour Therapist and I would put the dog on a turquoise or light blue blanket to assist in his healing. You might want to add a capful of Apple Cider Vinegar to his drinking water, very beneficial and you might want to keep adding the Apple Cider Vinegar to the water, it makes the water taste better, and you will find he will drink more of it. Good luck to you both.

I bathe my yorkie often but he still has a dirty smell, what can I do?
Answers:
Well what you need to do is stop using your dog as a dust rag on your hardwood floor. I suggest you get one of those doggy carriers and not let him walk on the ground anymore.
have it put down
WASH HIS EARS, THAT IS WHAT IS SMELLY ON MY YORKIE. THEY HAVE THIS SPECIAL SOLUTION THAT IS FOR THE EAR CANALS SMELLINESS.
I use T-Gel Shampoo and Conditioner on my German Shepherd because I bath her often also. This particular kind of shampoo is soothing to the skin and won't leave her dry and itchy which is a good thing because I bath her two to three times a week. I hate dog smell.
My mom uses "Pet Perfume" on her Yorkie. They sell it at most larger pet stores, and it is dog safe. Its a good way to keep the dog smelling good between baths.
make sure you dry him good and buy mints for breath
you may want to have him groomed professionally once in a while to have the glands in his rear end cleaned out. some dogs need this done fairly frequently in order to keep them from smelling bad..
Buy dog perfume/colonge my dog still kinda smells after her bath too so we put some of that stuff on her. You can get some at a pet store like petco or petsmart
Even if you bathe your yorkie often doesn't mean he will be clean at all time. When he goes outside you must clean/wash his paws after. When he goes to pee or poop you must wipe his butt and when he pees he might step on his potty so clean his two feet. I have two dogs and that's how my family and i take care of my two dogs so they don't smell and we bathe them every 1 or 2 weeks but we always clean after them when they go outside, pee or poop. I hope that helps.
The smell could be from his breath or ears (especially if you have an older dog these tend to be the causes of the smell) Also try not to bath your dog too often he will end up with bad skin and this will be an even worse smell. Check his teeth and ears, if they need cleaned ask your groomer and/or vet for assistance.
You can also buy sprays for your dog (I'm a dog groomer and we use them daily) Your groomer may sell them, and most pet shops have them in stock.

Good Luck!
be care full its not good to bath a dog a lot it will dry out their skin and make it itchy try talking them to the groomers. you should only bath them once every 6 months unless they get into something
You should do research on how often to wash a pet. Dogs should only be washed a few times a year because when you wash them the oils on their hair and skin do not help protect the dog. some of the odors could be from the oils not repelling as they should. also dogs breath can send a very unpleasant smell as well as gas if you feed your dog cheap food that has fish by products in them.
bathe him with scented shampoo. i have apple scented shampoo for my dog. she smells so yummy-licious!
I use a product called BasicH2 on my dogs and they never have any smells or odors to them It is a great productGo to shaklee.ca and order some today
I audition alot can I take my pup with me?
Do u think casting agents would be mad if my mom brought my puppy with us. I live about 30 min from hollywood and sometimes we dont get home til after 9 do u think the casting agents would mind if I brought her with me.. she is fully house trained and sleeps alot and doesnt bark
Answers:
If the dog will stay quietly in a travel kennel, I don't think there would be a problem..Just don't make a big deal over it, or draw attention to her..
I have taken puppies in all kinds of public places, if they are quiet and can be in a small kennel..
I used to raise orphaned puppies, so had to keep them close enough to feed every 2-3 hours..I was a nurse, and didn't even have trouble taking them to work at the hospital!
maybe have your mom wait outside with the puppy, it could be very distracting for most agents
it depends where the location of the audition is
it depends on what kind of ppl they are
I do think casting agents would be annoyed if you brought your puppy along. Some buildings won't even allow pets, let alone who might be allergic to him. Unfortunatley, you are living a lifestyle that is probably not condusive to having a puppy to begin with. Puppies do need lots of attention. When/if you get work what will you do with the pup? They don't exactly give you a private trailer right off the bat.
While auditioning your pup has to be out of sight- they might want him/her instead.

I asked whether or not people think bull terriers are ugly.?
My boyfriend wants one and thinks they are gorgeous, I personally dont think they are that cute. Just wanted a general opinion, I dont need to grow up thank you. Why do some people have to take it to the next level and be so damn rude about it?!
Answers:
I'm personally not all that fond of Bull Terriers; I don't really care for the head shape, but that doesn't mean that they aren't a good dog! It just depends on the person's preference. I don't understand why people would interperet your question any differently than a general opinion wanted. Some people suck; there's not a thing anyone can do about it, unfourtunatley! I wish you luck with your terrier if indeed you ever do get one!
Yes, definitely ugly.
hideous creatures
I think any living animal or creature is cute in it's own way - I think Bull Terrier's are very comical and fun dogs - that's what I've always heard. I think their cute.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Gorgeous and very cute. If you think theyre ugly u will change your mind once you find out how child like they are
I think they are very cute. There are so many different pit bulls, you've got to be able to find one you can't resist.
Yes, but they're cute in a sense they are so ugly.
i think they are the ugliest things in the world.
They are adorable :D
*just wanted to add I'm sorry people were rude.
They can be quite cute in their own little way, especially puppies. But I prefer Westies and Yorkshire Terriers myself.
OH GROW UP WILL YA,AND STOP MOANING.
I grew up with bullterriers .They are just great . Believe me if you have one ,after a while you will see their beautyness. They are very energetic and sometimes clownish .
And somehow they can smile

no they are not ugly. maybe u r. j/k. but they have a diffrent head shape so what? any living thing is cute. in my opinion.
OMG! UR BOY FRIEND WANTS 1 OF THOES?? HELLO, HAS HE SEEN THEIR EGG SHAPED HEADS? WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES!! BUT TO ANSWER UR QUESTION THEIR UGLY THINGS!!
" Beauty is in the eye of the beholder " Everyone is entitled to their opinion and preferences. The Bull Terrier is one of those breeds that people love or hate their appearance. I think they are just so goofy looking they cute in an odd sort away. I do not think I would go get one but a do dog rescue and I would take one in if it needed a home,
Well, because "some" people "are" rude. Back to your question. Have you ever heard of that old saying, "beauty is in the eye's of the beholder?" Well, this fits the bill when it comes to this situation. I have a Labrador %26 think she's the most beautiful of all breeds. My brother came over and called her "homely!" Homely? So, your boyfriend sees the dog as cute, doesn't mean "you" have to. But then again, sometimes dogs ugly little faces grow on us, and before we know it, "we" think their cute too! But usually it's their personality we fall in love with anyway. Did that answer your question? Good luck, and don't let those "rude" idiots get to you. You just have to know that when you write, there's "going" to be idiots, okay?
No i don't like them. But they can not help the way they are.any way good luck in getting a dog
i think they are great friendly dogs, very energetic but if you get lots of friends around some people are very aware of them, bull terriers can sense the rise of heart beats ,and might act viciouly with them.wouldnt your boyfriend consider something like a poodle or a jack russle they are easier to hadle around people.
good luck and remember all dogs are great and you never know you might see a terrier puppy and you might find him adorable.
I think bull terriers are excellent dogs. I like their looks. I cant figure out why some people are so rude. I think they need to get a life, dont you?
hi it all depends on the personal view of the owner most dogs become very attached to their family ,each dog or ** have their own personalities and you don,t give a dam what people think of the breed ,we have German shepherds 5 in total and three cats all get on fine with each other and every one is different in colouring and looks but all loved just the same.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I believe all animals are beautifull, it is personallity that shines through eyes, a loving lick is worth a lot, some animals are harder to see as beautiful, but then so is it for men and women too! Look around and see someone who resembles a bull terrier! Anyway I think you should get to know the dog grow to love it then you won't care if it is ugly at all!
Enjoy!
as the saying goes as ugly as a bulldog licking piss of a thistle
I would never have chosen to own a bull terrier as they really do look ugly, however having had one (long story) - I would say they are an absolute joy to own. They are smart, loyal and gentle. They have more personality than many people. My son used to call her his ugly banana nosed dog. I still miss her and its 3 years since she died. Try meeting some bull terriers before you form an opinion based on looks. Fair warning though - they can jump 6 feet easily and need lots of exercise.
my dad has one and i think she looks SO funny that shes cute, i would have to say though that they are the most stubborn dog breed that i know off and generally do wot they want, she farts all the time and attacks other dogs if they don't submit to her. i think that it is a big responsibility having this kind off dog, cute or not.
I think they're very cute. They look like little sharks.
I think they are adorable! I have been told they have wonderful goofy personalities, which would surely make one even cuter!
I have one and think they are gorgeous too. They also make really good pets had mine for 7 years.
Not my cup of tea but I wouldn't say they are ugly either, all dogs deserve to be loved.
Bull terriers are ugly and thats what makes them gorgeous :D hehehe I love bull terriers too - but if ur not keen I would hesitate to get the dog. Best of luck!

i asked this guy to my homecoming will he say yes?
actually my friend asked for me(i didnt want her 2)
well when she asked he said i dont know i need more info and he kinda got embarrased and he turned red thats what my friend said. so will he say yes or no? or does he like me?
Answers:
Well, he didn't give a right out 'No', so at least he is considering it..I wouldn't buy the dress yet, though..
thats kinda hard to say..sorry i dont' know
I don't know
I think hell say yes!
I don't know. Your friend could have said something to him about you that was not true. She could have also been lieing about what he said. So he may like you or he may not like you. It is hard to say. Next time, make sure your friends don't ask someone you like if they want to go to homecoming with you, or if they like you. Ask him yourself. If you ask him yourself if he likes you, he probably will tell you the truth. Good Luck.
Maybe you should ask him for yourself.
Well are you pretty? This really shouldn't matter but if you are I guarantee he'll go with you.
What does this have to do with dogs? Well, there is no way of knowing what he will say.
hmm cool I have a homecoming this week too on saturday lol but thats a yes because he blushed awww trust me girlfriend I know he will cause I had the same experience lol take care.
I don't know .sorry
Unless your friends are dogs, I dont think this is the area that you wanted to post your question in. No, he will not say yes unless you ask him yourself.

For the people out their that answered me on how to prepare my 9 year old son that our dog might not make it through the night..Any way, as I expected she did not make it that night. I had her in the living room but some how she made her way to his room and passed. I guess that is where she slepted all of her life and that is where she wanted to be. I just wanted to give all of you an update. Thanks again for your answeres.

I'm so sorry about your dog. We went through the same thing 2 months ago. I know she's happy and waiting for me on the other side, that's my belief. Take care!
I'm so sorry for your loss, but atleast she passed away knowing she was loved. She probably did feel more comfortable with your son if that is where she was used to being. Again, I'm so sorry.

I asked a question about my dog barking she is only a year old?
She barks at anyone smaller than her or same height I have tried the bottles shock collars are in humane aprt from that she is a good dog she just hates men and kids her same height and under why please help me
Answers:
Hiya SAM
please dont smack your dog (someone said it in your 1st posting)
this will NOT work
to me personally, dog sprays collars, and other gadgets like that are made for very serious problem dogs, not just for a barking dog, some people are sooo lazy, if there dog dosent do what he/she wants, they get a spray/electric collar, what happened to good old fashion dog training, it takes time SAM, sounds like you need to socialise her more, take her to parks (on the lead of course) sit with her, when she barks a tug on the collar, eye contact and a firm No, you have to be persistent Sam, if this dosent work, take her to dog behaviour training school, it might cost you about 拢30 for 6 week course, it will be well worth it, they will also help you with other traits.
Just a bit of info for you Sam, Bi tches are much more protective, in her own little way she is saying get away from my master, or i will bite, you have to let her know that you dont need protecting all the time..
I am going through the same thing with 1 of my dogs at the moment, it takes time. Wish you well, good luck Sam. :-)
that's what dogs do to communicate. they can't talk, so they bark.
let her bark
its possible that she has had an incident with a small child or man prehaps in the back yard while you were away kids can be mean. you need to start over with her and work alittle at a time with a child or man you trust and retrain her to trust. it might not seem aggresive now but if you let this cont. it could get worse and she could end up biting out of fear or nerveness
Cut its legs off !
You could try a citronella no-bark collar. They are expensive (about $100), but they are humane and work really well. When your dog barks, they puff a spray of citronella oil in its face, which will annoy the dog. After a few barks, the dog figures out that it any pleasant to bark anymore.
You could also take your dog to a training class. I paid $99 for an 8-week class at PetSmart. It teaches you and the dog at the same time, plus it helps get your dog socialized around different people and other dogs.
It won't be any fun for your dog going through life hating kids and men, so training her now will give her a happier doggy future.
You can buy a Dog Collar which stops dogs barking it costs about 拢14.50p. You'll find them in those little mags which are sometimes in newspaper or in free newspapers.
she is trying to control them they must not let this happen make sure they don't respond to her barking and only respond when she has stopped barking

to me personally, dog sprays collars, and other gadgets like that are made for very serious problem dogs, not just for a barking dog, some people are sooo lazy, if there dog dosent do what he/she wants, they get a spray/electric collar, what happened to good old fashion dog training, it takes time SAM, sounds like you need to socialise her more, take her to parks (on the lead of course) sit with her, when she barks a tug on the collar, eye contact and a firm No, you have to be persistent Sam, if this dosent work, take her to dog behaviour training school, it might cost you about 拢30 for 6 week course, it will be well worth it, they will also help you with other traits.
that's what dogs do to communicate. they can't talk, so they bark.
let her bark
its possible that she has had an incident with a small child or man prehaps in the back yard while you were away kids can be mean. you need to start over with her and work alittle at a time with a child or man you trust and retrain her to trust. it might not seem aggresive now but if you let this cont. it could get worse and she could end up biting out of fear or nerveness
I am worried my dog is coming to the end of her life. How do I know?
My dog has had at least one seizure a year since 1999. She hasn't had a seizure for 2 years. This morning she had a seizure that she was in and out of for a total of one and a half hours. During the seizure she started breathing real heavy. Then threw-up. Then she wanted outside and did not want to come in. Then her seizure got real bad. She just lay on the deck going in and out of the seizure. Then after the seizure was over, she just keeps lying around. Breathing heavy. She did eat, and kept it down. But I am still concerned. Her behavior is not like it has been when she has a seizure. She always looks for me before a seizure and I sit on the floor with her throughout, Today she wanted me and my daughter. She has always been a mama's girl. But she has never just layed about for the whole day. She has never gotten sick. Also, 2 months ago we put her buddy to sleep. He was older than she. I know she is missing him. Any advice? What do I look for?
Answers:
I'm so sorry. Although I've never had a dog with seizures, I know what it's like to have a dog that is old and sick I.I had to put to put three dogs to sleep in a six month period, the last one which was a puppy I adopted from the pound and had Distemper, unknown to me hen I adopted her.
Unfortunately, this is a question that only you can can answer. You said that she hasn't had a seizure in two years, so maybe, it will be a long time before she has another one. I would watch her and see how she acts tonight.. I presume that she is on some kind of anti-seizure medication. If she isn't, then maybe she should be.
Call the vet in the morning and see what the vet suggests. If your dog is still eating and acting otherwise normal, without any pain or seizures, then enjoy what time you have left with her and spoil her her rotton.
I think when you look in her eyes, you'll know when it's time to say good-bye. That was how I knew. I could see it.
I'm really sorry, and I hope everything goes well and she doesn't continue to have seizures. Best of luck to you both.
TAKE HER TO THE VET!
This is very sad for you and her. She is grieving for her buddy and is probably the onset of the seizure and is not unnormal for them to vomit. Since she had such a long seizure and not just one I would definitely call the vet. She is totally drained from the events she has gone thru. The heavy breathing is her being out of breath or feeling sick. Make her surroundings calm and quiet and be there for her but call the vet ASAP for further advice. Is she on medication for this?
Before a dog dies, they lose interest in things that they have always enjoyed. Eating, playing, walks, etc. They lay around more, sleep more. It is hard for them to get up and walk around. They become very weak. With the seizure being so bad, that may be one sign that she is getting weaker. I would take her to the vet tomorrow and let him give her a good checkup. My thoughts are with you. I am sure she is mourning the loss of her dear buddy and this as not helped with her health issues. How old is the dog?
Her body may just be tired and is starting to shut down. Coupling that with her emotional distress from loosing her friend, she might be deciding that it's time to go too. Sometimes a new companion can help. Have you considered getting another dog? Probably not a rambunctious puppy, but a calm middle-aged dog from the pound could be nice. A new dog might also help you emotionally if you're girl does need to be put down. Have you talked to a vet about her latest episode? Her condition might have changed with age, or she might have ate something to set off such a bad seizure.
Remember, sometimes they just know when to go, so take your cues from her. She'll tell you if she's ready. I know it's a horribly painful decision, but their physical comfort is sometime more important than our emotional attachments.
I've lost many a pet, and I miss them all, but you can always talk to them about it before and after. That can help.
I think you should have her checked out. Don't wait out the seizures. Maybe there is something that could be done to help her, or maybe she is suffering.
ask her
call the vets office and tell them and may be they can get her in right away and check her out you will know when an animal is dying they will go and hide and not want to come out of hiding i found my dog dead in the garage as that is where she went to hide as she knew that we did not go to that garage very often
i have known dogs that were dying, to go someplace to be alone to die. (like under a deck, in a closet..) my heart goes out to you and your dog..i lost my rotty last january, and her dog companion, a JRT, was so heartbroken, it took getting a puppy in the house to pull the JRT outta the same depression i had..we are both better now with the new puppy. Take her to the vet, and if the vet is good, they will tell you the truth, at least then, if the dog needs to be put to sleep, it will be pain free..although not for you..so sorry about your dog..
Your dog will tell you when she is ready. Losing her buddy has changed her world and this stress has probably intensified the seizures. You don't say how old she is, but no matter the age, when it becomes kinder to her to let her go then to make her stay then it will be time. She and you will know the right time.
Is she currently being managed medically for seizures with phenobarbital or potassium bromide? If so her levels might need to be checked and her medication ajusted. As time goes on they need increased doses of their medication. If she is not on any medication then she needs to be seen by the veterinarian to determine what medication type and dose are right for her. If managed with medication she could live quite awhile longer. If you don't want to pay for a vet or medication then you might just need to put her to sleep as it is inhumane and dangerous to have an animal that seizures without the benefit of medical treatment.
We had a cocker that was 13 years old.towards the end he was blind and started having seizures as well that kept getting progressively worse. I made the decision to end his suffering because it was unfair to him, letting him suffer through the seizures after he had given our family so many years of love.On the way to the Vet he was at ease and when I was given a few minutes to talk to him before the Vet came back in with the shot..he layed his head on my hand and gave me a kiss..rolled on his side and was ready. He went very peacefully and I know he was so happy to end his pain and suffering. Your beloved pet will let you know when the time is coming. If she wants you near when she is having her seizures she will also let you know when she is ready. Bless you and your lovely pet. Also her loss of her play mate is very real and she is probably grieving the emptiness.
after u have been given professional help pick three off her fav things example going swimming ,playing fetch or getting up on the couch for a cuddle when these things start 2 disapear then its time 2 say good bye.

I am worried about my 1 yr old JRT. Should I be concerned?
I've heard testicle cancer is common among the breed. I recently noticed a marble size lump on his testicle. What could be the cause if not cancer? THX
Answers:
It could be nothing, but. the vet would be the best for that answer. If it is a common thing, I would for sure get him neutered. that way it's something you wouldnt have to worry about. he is at a good age now to have it done. Dont get to worked up until you find out for sure. I could be a sist or something. Just make an appointment and go from there. I wish you luck.
Get that baby to the vet asap! I bot my 1 yr old male JRT neutered so I wouldnt have problems like that.
Good luck!
Take him to the vet asap and have it checked. This type of cancer usually happens in older, intact dogs, but I gues it could be a cancer in the younger dog. Hope he is okay.

I am wondering if a 36'' crate is too small for a boxer? She is like 50 pounds, not big.?
Answers:
My boxers weigh 55 and 58 lbs and are each in a 36"deep, 24" wide and 27" high and they are fine in ithem. Have room to turn, stand and stretch.
im not sure about the size but i do know that their crate should be big enough for them to stand up and turn around in comfortably, not much bigger than that!
Depends if shes full-grown. My friend had a boxer that grew to 110 lbs, and he could fit in his 2x3 ft crate but he hated it, so it never got used. But then, he didn't sleep in a crate growing up.
As long as they do, dogs like the crate. It should be around 1/4 longer than dogs full-grown size. Be sure to include a sturdy, comfortable, washable bed, and water bowl. We use a SS bowl that hangs inside the door.
Sounds like the 36" crate would be fine.
its fine
The smaller the crate, the better, actually.
Make sure it's big enough for her to stand up, lay down, and turn around in.but THAT'S IT. Giving her more room will allow for her to mess in her crate.
I am wanting to find out what kind of dog this is.?

I am wanting to buy a Yorkshire Terrier and..?
I was wondering how much money I have to save to get one. Are they good with kids? I have 2 young girls. Are they loyal and loving? I used to have one when I was little and dont remember much about them. What do you think about them? Good dogs?
Answers:
iam a proud owner of a 5yr old yorkie named chaney. she is blue and gold in color. although these dog's are small by nature. they are loyal pets. as for children, they can be over dominant at times. but in my case i have a grandchild who chaney adores. never had any problems. but, it could have been as with any family pet. because she was raised around her. it's all in how they are treated. as for price. these dog's can run up to $1,000. i paid 500 for mine. chaney is very playful and full of life. she loves her tennis ball. and doesn't show no signs of agression towards anyone. but, like i said with any pet it's all in how you raise them. as for chaney i wouldn't trade her for anything in the world.
I dont think they are good for kids. I have had 4 different ones from different litters and all and they all go off in their own little world. They arent people dogs, and can be very annoying at times b/c they bark for no reason. I love my dogs dont get me wrong but they just are not people dogs. I dont have kids or anything but if I did I wouldnt chose to get another Yorkie. They require ALOT of attention! Oh yea, and they are tiny so they are fragile and my little cousins and all love to pick them up and all but they always tend to kinda of hurt them, again all people/dogs are different, but this is just my opinion. I would get a dog that is just a little bit bigger so you kid and play with them and all whent hey are a little bit older than toddlers and have fun with them.Good Luck!
I grew up with one, her name was Coke as in coca cola. She was a gorgeous dog. They do turn up being sold at the pound, they generally when bought from a registered owner run up about $400 for a breeding female or Male or about $250 for neutered males and females. Just when you do get one take really good care of it's eyes because they are very susceptable to cataracts. Their fringes get really annoying for them too. They should come with their tail docked but it isn't necessary.
yes there are five kids in my house and we have 3 yorkies I love them to death and they are very good with the children! Good LUCK!
I would not have Terriers around small children, my experience has been that Terriers can be aggressive with small children. Small children like to put their faces right into the dogs face. The natural instinct of the Terrier is to see it as a challenge and nip the child's face to show their dominance. Terriers were bred to hunt vermin and can be aggressive. I will also say, before I am over run and stomped by Terrier lovers, that it also will depend on the the dogs temperament and training. My advice is to be very, very, careful.

I am thinking about getting a Rottweiler puppy. I just have a few questions.?
Do you think the dog will interact well with my little cat? Do you know if they are ok with kids and unfortuantley we are out of the house 9-10 hours a day do you think the dog will be okay in the house by him/herself? Thank you!!
Answers:
We have a rottweiler and a cat and they interact just fine together, they will just have to get used to eachother. We also have 3 kids and our rotty grew up with them. She is great with them and is very protective of them. The rotty should be fine for the time you are gone. You will have to housetrain the puppy. There will probably be a period where the dog may act out by making a mess (knocking over the trash, chewing on shoes, etc.), but that is normal at first. Overall, everything will be fine.
Our dog just had a litter of pups 2 weeks ago, so if you are still thinking about getting one you can contact me at kimberlydino@yahoo.com
If you are gone that long every time, I recommend just getting another cat. Dogs need more human interaction.
I don't think any puppy regardless of breed is going to be ok being caged up for that long. As far as getting along with cat, I would say yes. And every breed are ok with kids, its how you raise the dog. Rotts as they grow up will become very protective of the kids.
Unless you plan on having a dog walker, it's not a good idea to get a puppy if you will be out of the house for 9-10 hours. Puppies need LOTS of bathroom breaks, and lots of attention to train them and get them socialized so they'll be good companions. If you leave a dog alone this long- any kind of dog, they will get bored and destructive.
my niehgbor has a rotti and does get along with the cats she lives with but when she sees another its like she wants to kill it. and she dosent get along with babys. maybe kids. she tried to bite a baby. she goes through the garbage when everyone is out of the house. but rotti's do have prey drive like she does she attacks alot of dogs. and she almost had to get put down.
well it probably wont get along with the cat but if your not home half the day you probably shouldnt get it because you wouldnt be there to play with it feed it or let it out to go to the bathroom
Rottweilers are people dogs- great with people and usually good with smaller animals or other pets. However, they require a lot of work. You want to make sure they are well trained from the beginning, because as they get to be bigger than your kids, bad behavior won't be funny anymore.
I would say no to most puppies if you're away 10 hours a day, especially a Rottweiler. They're great dogs, but they need more supervision than most.

I am thinking about getting a French Bulldog?
I have a female chihuahua and a house cat. Do Frenchies get along with other animals? Are they hard to care for? Do they make good pets? Could you supply a website with more FAQ on them?
Answers:
I have a friend that has a Frenchie and she loves her dog. She has another dog and they have no problems hanging out together. However, she has spent thousands of dollars on treatment because of the nasal passages of the breed. The dog was always sick and had severe breathing problems as she got older, to the point that they had to do surgery on her to open up the passages better. If this is a cost problem, consider only dogs with longer snouts. Pugs, bulldogs, frenchies, and other smushed faced breeds are prone to these issues.
I'm also linking to a Frenchie breed club for you. It should include health information, general FAQs and rescue information. Remember to always use a reputable breeder (I'll link to that as well) and to walk away from any breeder who just feel not quite right or professional. Good luck and I hope this helps! : )
Make sure you give the dog time to learn English, because at first he won't understand a word you say.
French Bulldogs are like Whippets. They relie on a friend(another dog). They lounge around the house, they're pretty calm.
www.dogbreedinfo/frenchbulldog. (this is a good site)
I really wanted a french Bulldog, but i ended up getting a boston terrier. this is what i read up on the French Bulldog. They are a pretty calm breed and seem to be good with other animals.
Description
This is a sturdy little Bulldog with large, erect, rounded, bat ears, a flat, powerful muzzle and a pug nose. The square flat head is not as massive as the English Bulldog's. The forehead is rounded. Height doesn't matter as long as the dog is well balanced. The height at the withers should be approximately the same as the length from withers to tail set. The dog should be pear-shaped, with the shoulders wider than the tail area. The short, soft, easy-care coat comes in brindle, fawn, white and combinations of brindle or fawn with white. The skin is soft and fairly loose, making the dog very pleasant to pet. The prominent round eyes are dark colored and the bite is undershot. The tail is either straight or cork-screw.
Temperament
The French Bulldog is a pleasant, easy care companion. A very playful and affectionate dog. Sweet and absolutely hilarious; they have a very comical personality and love to clown around. It is bright and easygoing. Curious and alert. The Frenchie gets along fairly well with strangers and other animals, but he is often bonds strongly to one person. They play well with other dogs; some males may be dog aggressive, while others get along with other dogs just fine. This breed needs companionship and will not thrive without it. The Frenchie cannot be owned and ignored. They are fairly willful, but can be trained if the owner is patient. They respond to patient, consistent training that DOES NOT include hitting or harsh jerking. They are clean, and companionable, enthusiastic and sometimes do not know when to quite, but they are not yappy and loud. This breed does best with older considerate children. Frenchies are easy going to show. This breed may drool and slobber; however a good percentage of them do not. This little dog is also a ruthless hunter of mice!
Height, Weight
Height: 12 inches (30cm.)
There are two weight classes of French Bulldog: 19-22 (9-10kg.) pounds and 22-28 pounds (10-13kg.). Over 28 pounds is a disqualification.
Health Problems
French Bulldogs are prone to eye and respiratory problems. If too overweight, the French Bulldog may have trouble breathing, because of a swollen abdomen. They may wheeze, snore and be gassy. It is said breed can not swim because of his physique, so be very careful around swimming pools, however some French Bulldog owners have reported that their dogs can indeed swim. Sometimes bitches must deliver by Cesarean section because of the puppies' large heads. Potential purchasers should be aware that these are high maintenance dogs and you can expect your vet bills can be big.
Living Conditions
Frenchies are sensitive to temperature extremes. Overheating this dog may cause heat stroke. They prefer cooler climates. This breed is good for apartment life. They can be fairly active indoors and will do okay without a yard.
Exercise
This flat-nosed breed should not be exercised in hot weather. They love to run and play and can play for hours if you let them. Some have higher energy levels than others.
Life Expectancy
About 10-12 years.
Grooming
Very little grooming is needed. Regular brushings will do. This breed is an average shedder.
Origin
The French Bulldog was originally developed in England as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. In the 1860's, French dog breeders imported some of these very small Bulldogs from Great Britain and bred them with French Terriers. Streetwalkers in France greatly admired the imports and this led to the name French Bulldog. When the breed was eventually brought back to England for exhibition, the English made a big uproar about the name French Bulldog, since the Bulldog was originally an English Breed and because the Bulldog was a traditional symbol of English culture.
I am the Rescue/Community Liaison for the French Bulldog Rescue Network. Your questions are all good. They are also impossible to answer definitively. Some Frenchies are good with other animals. Some are not. I live with 2 Frenchies and an Airedale terrier. They are a good match for each other. Some are hard to care for, some are not. Generally they do make good pets as long as you are willing to devote the time and effort that it takes to make them good pets. Frenchies are big bulldogs in dwarf bodies. They require a lot of interaction. Visit a breeder or a French bulldog meet-up group to see them in action. For more information, you can visit www.frenchbulldogz.com. The site has quite a bit of useful information.

I am thinking about buying a Bassett Hound. What do you think about that?
Answers:
Please adopt! Bassett Hounds are great, but health problems are a big issue. Perhaps you could get a hound-type at the shelter. They'll have the cuteness and personality, but also will have less health problems, will cost less, and you're saving a life! What could be better than that?!
They're adorable, but because of their short legs they're prone to spinal disorder. Also keep in mind they're stubborn, so it may be difficult to houstrain one.
Sure go for it. Just as long, as with any dog, you are prepared to give it the proper care and attention for as long as he lives, and you read up a little bit about the breed so you know what they're like and what special needs they may have.
Personally I love Basset Hounds. That's the kind of dog I want to get. Just know that they are hounds and they do tend to bark a lot.
Also I don't really recommend "buying" a dog. Pet stores usually get their puppies from puppy mills. I would maybe recommend checking out a Basset Hound rescue group: www.bassethoundrescue.com
I had a Basset . She was so funny , her long ears..bassets love kids.. and are good companions.
Works for me ! They look so funny when you put antlers on 'em come Christmas time. LOL
They are very good family pets. since there ears are so long you would have to clean them daily. they do have very short legs so you dont want your bassett to get too plump. but generally they are going to weigh about 50-60 pounds of there healthy. this breed is very laid back and great with children and great with a busy or lazy life. they are high maintainece though. but welll worth it
Buy?? Why, there are plenty at pounds.Or check with your local Veterinarian who might know someone who is geting rid of one.Or put in an "order" with a vet..
They say that dogs look like their owners, or maybe that owners start looking like their dogs.
Are you sure that you want to?
There used to be a TV show which featured a talking bassett hound, with Eve Arden's voice dubbed in, but I'll bet that you are too young to remember it. It was pretty funny.
I think if you want one of those specifically, then go for it. But if you just want a pooch to cuddle and have as a pet, go to the animal shelter and save some poor doggie's life. Mutts are just as lovable as pure-breeds!
Yes.I agree..adopt. Not only are they cheaper, you are saving a life and they will make sure to show you how greatful they are everyday. Besides muts are the best dogs. Take the best characteristics of multiple dogs and you only win. There are many dogs out there that need a home and your love.
Bassetts are great! Just keep in mind that they are a hound dog. Some of them drool more than others. We have had ourd for 5 years now and he spends a lot of time in the house. He was very hard to housebreak, but once it took he never made another oops. We wouldn't trade him for the world. He is so easygoing and lovable.
Your mommy thinks it past your bed time.
My basset hound is hilarious and keeps us laughing all the time. She has an awesome personality. You do have to take special care of their ears though as they get dirty easily and have to be cleaned out at least once a week.
You do have to watch them for back problems - make sure that no one rough houses with them and accidently falls on their backs.
Mines name is Samantha and she outruns hunting dogs I know! She's great. I've had her for 5 years.
Bassett hounds are wanderers. Better have a great fence. Also, they don't bark.they howl. But, they are fun.
I am thinking about adopting a dog. Probably a yellow lab. My husband and I have a house with a fair sized?
backyard. We also have 4 cats. I am an animal lover, and just wonder if I will feel like I have too many animals. we have a six year old daughter who would love a dog.
I haven't had a dog since I was a kid. Should we go for it?
Answers:
I have also had pet's. my favorite is the labs. I' ve had them with all my children. The first two years seem to be the most active. I have done dog obedience with them and found it to be rewarding and fun. I haven't run into any problems w/my kids and often say the lab as one of the gang when they where younger. Labs want very much to be involved in what is going on. I had one lab that brought in firewood when the kids where doing there chores. we would ask him to find the boys when they had there forts in the wood and he would take me to them. I find they have a great understanding with people and are very intelligent. we would take them with us hiking, the lake, etc. and I still do. They do like a lot of exercise and its easy to provide they love to retrieve, Frisbee, hide and seek in the woods. They really love and appreciate there place in the family. I also feel it's good for kids to have pet's. They learn how to treat and care for them and they also get the benefits of a loyal companion. Many times a memory that carries for years. Actually I'm saying go for it. It's a little more work and maybe a change but the benefits are worth it.
As a person who has 4 dog of his own and is prepairing to bring in several more. I say GO FOR IT! Just remember, get a dog you will all love and take care of. Dont just get a dog to have a dog.
Dogs are great. But labs are big and rambunctious. If that's what you want for your family, go for it.
Get a Golden Retriever mine is so good with younger kids she lloes them to death
If you have the space, time, money and love. Go for it.
I have 5 cats, 3 dogs, and 2 rabbits. At times I feel like Dr.Doolittle, but they bring so much joy to my life, and they are all properly cared for, and I'm not overwhelmed, so it works for our household.
If you can afford to feed them and take them to the vet, go for it. Dog's usually need more attention than cats so don't just leave him out in the backyard by himself all the time. If you can give him plenty of love and attention then I don't think that's too many. If you had 4 dogs, maybe that'd be too much. lol.
If you get a young Lab, or one who is OK with cats, it sounds like a good arrangement.
If you are buying from a breeder, be sure to see the parents, and make sure they are exactly as you want your dog to be..
yes . they are great company and you are saving a dog from being put down . there are many ,many good dog's at animal shelter's . they are there usally becasue the person that had them . has eather died . or moved and couldn't take them with . that is the only place i would buy a dog from. i have two taco dog's. , a red heeler and a n akita . all of which were rescued from a shelter . and i have never regreated it yet . if you can't get along with the dog you can alwayts return them within 30 days' .
I think that you should go for it. We also acquired a large dog. He is a Red Alaskan Husky that use to pull a sled in Alaska. He is so greatful and loving, and your daughter would also love it to no end.
Absolutely go for it. If you love animals, then no amount will ever feel like too many. I had 4 dogs, 2 budgies and 2 hamsters all at the same time. And two of my dogs were great danes. So I say go for it. Good Luck and good on you for considering such a rewarding option.
i have 3 dogs and one is a yellow lab.they love to run and play.you might have to play with it alot or it may want to play with the cats which i don't think the cats may like
Labs need a lot of exercise when they don't have space, which means you'll have to walk the dog A LOT. I suggest you to get a small dog that likes kids; your daughter will enjoy it because it won't be stronger than her when it grows up and she'll be able to walk it, 'cause a 6 year old doesn't have the strength to walk a vivid lab. Poodles and Yorkshires are loved by girls they're smart and beutiful. I had a black lab and a poodle when I was 7 but I loved the poodle a lot more because I could handle her and play with her a lot more, plus if she bit anythig it didn't get ruined. Plus cleaning up after a small dog is a lot easier than after a big dog. Hope that helps.
Go for it! I have two black labs and 3 cats. I've raised both of my labs from pups and they are great around kids and the cats. I always find the cats laying with the dogs and the dogs are grooming the cats. Labs are great dogs! Thats all I have ever owned since I was a kid. Have fun with your new pup!
They will do GREAT!
Speaking as someone in whose household the combined human weight is 258 and the combined critter weight is 190 - we just barely have an edge.
Give the kitties time to adjust and they weill all get along.Just don't force it.
I strongly suggest that if you are considering a specific breed, that you go through the Breed Resscue run by the National Breed Club affiliated with the AKC.
The rescue dogs are fostered with people involvved in the breed and they are very careful to assess each dog's personality, temperment, kid and cat friendliness (and no, just because a dog is of a breed, it does not mean they will all act alike), health and level of training. They are also available for help and advice after adoption. Knowing whether the dog likes tolerate or chases cats is important - as is their attitude towards kids. Labs are prey driven breed so check on the kitty question unless you like footraces through the house with lamps flying.

GO FOR IT! Okay 4 cats, well they are pretty much loners anyway, so they really cannot be counted.. ha ha
I adopted 2 dogs and they are the best thing. I will never regret getting them, and I am thanked by them every chance they get. We need more people willing to adopt.
absolutely, as long as you can take care of it (which obviously you can) go for it.
I have a lab and two cats and an ant farm and they're fabulous.

I am stuck! What should we name our Boxer puppy?
We bought a Boxer puppy last week and have been calling him Piddles, for lack of a better name. The family is in a dead lock about a name. We have discussed Ceasar, Diesel, Dozer, and Maximus (Max). Please give me your suggestions, or discuss what you named your dog and why. Thank you.

We named our Boston Terrier Napoleon because he was so small and strutted around like he would rule the world. Unfortunately, he farts so much we end up calling him stinky boy. What ever you name him will probably be changed when you discover some of his personality traits.
Out of the names you have so far, I like MAXIMUS the best, but not Max (tooo common).
I like the name Sony, and I had a Rotty called Cesar.

I am so sad!?
My neighbors dogs are neglected and the one I loved ran away. Is there any hope of finding him? I really want to get him back. He was in my heart.

Check animal control DAILY and any other area shelters. Put up flyers at local vets and pet stores.
You really need to call animal control on those people if they are neglecting the dogs. Worst case scenario, the dogs are seized, and eventually put down if not adopted out. But, this is far better than living in squalor without adequate food or shelter and being exposed to the elements. Likely, they have parasites - maybe even heart worms. This is a terrible death. Please don't sit by and do nothing for these animals.
post LOST signs!
How can we tell you if theres any hope of finding him? We have no clue. I mean I would say I hope you guys do find him, But also if his is neclected at his home.then he's probably happier where he ran off to. If your neighbors are REALLY neglecting their dogs and pets you should file a report. You would do the same if someone was neglecting their kids wouldnt you?
Aw that's awful. My doggy passed away a few weeks ago so I feel sad too. Put up Lost Dog signs and if you find him keep him, and report the owners of the other dog to the rspca or ask if you can buy him /her.
leave food out side your door, and call the police about the dog abusers it is a federal offense
If the neighbors are neglecting their dog you should phone animal control. So sorry your dog ran away :*( There is a chance you will find him again though. Is he micro chipped? Or tattooed? Or even have his collar and tags on? If so there you might be able to find him again. Just put up flyer's and check the pounds and that to see if anyone took your dog there.
I hope you do find your dog, my best wishes to you and your pooch.
Yeh why dont you post LOST DOG signs up? i mean they dont work in my neighborhood but they might work in yours. Hope you find him soon! GOOD LUCK! :D

Friendly Hello, If your neighbor is neglecting the dogs you need to file a legal report. Now what I would do is call animal control and the shelters around and give a discription of the missing dog. Then if they find it they will call you first. Adopt him from the shelter, take to vet for proper care, license and mirco chip under your name. Blessings Kelly
Put up lost dog signs and call the dog pound to see if they have the dog.
As far as the dogs being neglected, maybe the dog has found a home where he no longer being neglected. Why would you want a dog to come back to neglect.
Also why have you not called and reported your neighbors for neglecting the dogs to begin with. You should have done this when you first noticed the neglect.
Can not tell a lie i hope the dog has found a happy home and DOES NOT COME BACK to the neglect.
I am sorry you are heart broken but really if you loved him that much you should have saved him from the neglect.
