I am thinking about buying a Bassett Hound. What do you think about that?

Please adopt! Bassett Hounds are great, but health problems are a big issue. Perhaps you could get a hound-type at the shelter. They'll have the cuteness and personality, but also will have less health problems, will cost less, and you're saving a life! What could be better than that?!
They're adorable, but because of their short legs they're prone to spinal disorder. Also keep in mind they're stubborn, so it may be difficult to houstrain one.
Sure go for it. Just as long, as with any dog, you are prepared to give it the proper care and attention for as long as he lives, and you read up a little bit about the breed so you know what they're like and what special needs they may have.

Personally I love Basset Hounds. That's the kind of dog I want to get. Just know that they are hounds and they do tend to bark a lot.

Also I don't really recommend "buying" a dog. Pet stores usually get their puppies from puppy mills. I would maybe recommend checking out a Basset Hound rescue group: www.bassethoundrescue.com
I had a Basset . She was so funny , her long ears..bassets love kids.. and are good companions.
Works for me ! They look so funny when you put antlers on 'em come Christmas time. LOL
They are very good family pets. since there ears are so long you would have to clean them daily. they do have very short legs so you dont want your bassett to get too plump. but generally they are going to weigh about 50-60 pounds of there healthy. this breed is very laid back and great with children and great with a busy or lazy life. they are high maintainece though. but welll worth it
Buy?? Why, there are plenty at pounds.Or check with your local Veterinarian who might know someone who is geting rid of one.Or put in an "order" with a vet..
They say that dogs look like their owners, or maybe that owners start looking like their dogs.
Are you sure that you want to?

There used to be a TV show which featured a talking bassett hound, with Eve Arden's voice dubbed in, but I'll bet that you are too young to remember it. It was pretty funny.
I think if you want one of those specifically, then go for it. But if you just want a pooch to cuddle and have as a pet, go to the animal shelter and save some poor doggie's life. Mutts are just as lovable as pure-breeds!
Yes.I agree..adopt. Not only are they cheaper, you are saving a life and they will make sure to show you how greatful they are everyday. Besides muts are the best dogs. Take the best characteristics of multiple dogs and you only win. There are many dogs out there that need a home and your love.
Bassetts are great! Just keep in mind that they are a hound dog. Some of them drool more than others. We have had ourd for 5 years now and he spends a lot of time in the house. He was very hard to housebreak, but once it took he never made another oops. We wouldn't trade him for the world. He is so easygoing and lovable.
Your mommy thinks it past your bed time.
My basset hound is hilarious and keeps us laughing all the time. She has an awesome personality. You do have to take special care of their ears though as they get dirty easily and have to be cleaned out at least once a week.
You do have to watch them for back problems - make sure that no one rough houses with them and accidently falls on their backs.
Mines name is Samantha and she outruns hunting dogs I know! She's great. I've had her for 5 years.
Bassett hounds are wanderers. Better have a great fence. Also, they don't bark.they howl. But, they are fun.
