I am looking to buy a dog. To be specific Im interested in a Siberian Husky or Alaskian Malamute! I am in Ky.?

I need info about where to find these kinds of dogs. I would prefer a puppy but could possibly go for 1 to 3 years old
Answers:
go to petfinder.com.this is a site for rescue groups.just enter your Zip code, and be AMAZED at how many great choices you have !!.i recently adopted a Great Pyrenees mix from them, and my dog Sylvester is awesome !!.check it out.try it.do a good deed.adopt a Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute today !.good luck to you, in your search for a Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute as a new pet !!.most adoptions run between $ 50 to $ 200 maximum, for a wonderfull dog, that will be very happy to be your new pet !
Thats a big job to clean up after.
you should get a puppy because that way you can train it. It will learn to trust you but if you get a adult it will want nothing to do with.
i have a Siberian husky . love him like he is one of my kids. if u r willing to travel i can help u out. other wise good luck
You can try www.puppyfind.com If your interest in those breeds have you looked at the Akita. I love the Akita..they are beautiful. I had 2 of them and they were great. Check them out.
The link below is to a wonderful organization in Tennessee that deals with both breeds.

Before getting either breed, please do extensive research. They are absolutely not the breed for everyone. The people at Sled Dog Rescue will also tell you this.

Mals/Sibes shed, volumes of hair.
Mals/Sibes dig/howl, for the fun of it, or because they are bored.
Mals/Sibes consider most smaller animals to be prey and will not just chase them, will kill them (cats, squirrels, dogs, rabbits, etc.)
Mals/Sibes obey.if they feel like it. They must be physically contained 100% of the time, with a leash or behind a secure fence.
Mals/Sibes are escape artists, able to dig under/climb over/push through any fence that isn't totally secure.
Mals/Sibes are working dogs, and need to be given sufficient exercise or they will do damage to your property as an outlet for their energy.
Mals/Sibes are pack animals and do not do well as outside dogs, unless there are multiple dogs kenneled outside. They do best as inside dogs with their human 'pack'.

If all this doesn't turn you off the breed, then please contact Sled Dog rescue and see if they can't help find you just the right dog!

(If you note the pic at the side, I'm not picking on the breed.I own many Mals myself, and find them absolutely wonderful, warts and all! LOL)
I can really help you out! i know of places around the US! can we perhaps talk through an IM or something? that would be easier!
I am not familiar with Kentucky weather but if it is very hot inthe summer then consider a dog that does not require cold weather like the dogs you mention-for they are miserable in hot weather. If the weather is cool to cold then OK but neither arae these APT dogs need daily exercise-a whole lot more than just a daily walk around the block. Call the Humane Society first for you'd be suprised at the no of [purebreeds getting discarded and in need of homes yes even a great no of pups. They will also advise where to find if have none available and what these dogs and other breeds need to be good pets(happy dogs that are in the environment suited to them and cared and loved make good pets)Also DOg Magazines list breeds and where to find. Look also in the Adopt Animal section of your local newspaper and always a good source is your local pound for the animals there are required by the ones to adopt to get neutered, shots and so forth. Best of luck to find the dog just right for you
www.petfinder.com
search husky
or search alaskan malamute
There are tons of husky rescue groups on the petfinder website, I wouldnt pay for a husky (except the adoption fee) b/c there are so many gorgeous and deserving huskies and the like that need a home
Just make sure you dont mind owning a dog that requires a lot of grooming, time spent on training a dog with a strong personalitiy, requires consistent exersize, who's hair sheds all over and who loves the cold weather.
Type it in on the Internet. and see what breeders are out there. Are you sure your ready for such a commitment. and I do hope that your looking for a actual pet to be indoors.
Spitz are smaller but just as beautiful as Huskys
make sure you only buy from a reputable breeder. Never buy from the newspaper or a pet store! also Never buy from a breeder who sells puppys/dogs year round. I have included some helpful web sites.

I have two siberian husky's and they shed sooo much! are you prepared for all that hair everywhere!? my mom vaccums at least twice a day! please do your research and read tons of books on the breed you want BEFORE you buy a puppy.

email the breeders I have listed below and if ask them if they know any reputable breeders in your area. many quality breeders know others and can find you the best breeder in your area.

a puppy is fun but can be messy and need to be let outside every half an hour(rather take them out more then to have them make a potty mess in the house) if you have time for a puppy then get one but if not you should look into a rescue dog.
good luck and please read lots of books and educate yourself about the breed you do pick so you know what to expect!

siberian husky's are my favorite! and my second favorite dog is a mini australian shepherd!
