They are VERY expensive, no matter where you look. I have a friend who is in love with this breed and she has done so much research, they are very pricey- no matter what. You caould try bulldog rescue- you may not find a new puppy, but you could help one find a home. I was at a local shelter about 3 weeks ago, and I saw one on a hold. Seriously, pure bred adult. Was gorgeous, intact male. There is always a chance- 50% of shelter dogs are pure breds. That same day I saw an Am. Bulldog, 2 german shepards, a choc lab, a couple of shitzus, and a Saint bernard! Not to mention tons of mixed breeds. If you can't afford it, maybe you can find something locally to rescue. Good luck.
Bulldogs are expensive and you are definitely looking in the WRONG place! Find a breeder through the AKC at www.akc.org . they are expensive, however, you will save money in the long run because you will have less health issues. The reason they are SOOO expensive is because breeding them is not easy, having health tests is expensive and most of the puppies are not breedable by standard. So, find a good breeder, let them put you on a list, and start saving your change! This is a creature that you will devote 10 to 15 years to - don't skimp on quality. If you can't take the time to save for a healthy, well-bred dog, you don't deserve one - instead, save money for emergencies and adopt a loving dog from the pound. Internet is a great place for puppy mills - they mass-breed any dog that can walk, regardless of health issues, but charge just enough less so that folks looking to save some money will buy. Trust me, bullies do have health issues and what you pay up front will come back tenfold with fewer vet bills and a longer life! In the long run, you won't find a more fun critter to keep you company than a healthy bully!
