Check at your local shelter. Sometimes they have them and they need a home.

This is an excellent place to start: http://pbrc.net/index.html

Also, check out this forum: http://pitbullforum.com/

Good luck and congrats on choosing to save a life!
A pitbull is a really cool pet to have. But, you have to train him/her as well. Or you will go to jail if he bites or attacks!
Check a shelter and make sure that they allow pitbulls in your area!
Try a humane society. Or look on google.com under adopt a pitbull.
do society a favor and leave that terrible breed where you seen it hopefully it was at humane society where it will be put down!
then adopt it
Seek out a Pitt-bull rescue group. They will have support for the adoption, and probably follow up support after you take the dog home.

They can also let you know about community laws on owning the breed. Several cities have made laws about not owning Pitt-bulls inside the city limits.

Good Luck- too bad you live so far away. Our rescue group still has one Hurricane Katrina dog, a Pitt-bull named "Bayou". Sweet dog, but everyone is afraid of the breed due to ignorance.
Don't they are fierice and can kill people if you do get a muzzle and an iron chain er. titanium..
Check out the humane society for adoptions. If there are children around, make sure to get a puppy becaues pitbulls can be good with children if raised with them, otherwise if u get an older dog make sure that it will not freak out if another animal or child comes by things like the dog's toy or food dish. Contrary to popular belief pitbulls are not anymore dangerous than other types of dogs, it just depends on how the dog is raised.
Pitbulls are wonderful dogs, they are such people dogs, and loyal to the end. They have a bad rep because some idiots train teh to fight. But any idiot would know that any breed of dog would be mean if it is trained to be mean or abused. But you have to socialize them well, as they need to learn to accept everythign when tehy are young pups, so make sure you have tehm around other dogs, people, men women and children people of different races, other animals, make sure they are socialized well and you wont have a problem with them attacking when they grow up. Mine is a big spoliled baby and she loves children, people dogs cats she loves everyone. You can buy one from a breeder or you can adopt one from a local pet shelter. Either way they need lots and lots of love. Good luck.
go on the internet to petfinder.com-they should be able to give you a list of rescue groups for your area. good luck.
You can be sued for millions and sent to jail if your pit attacks. Life isnt hard enough for ya? Why ask for trouble?
im sorry but i hate the people who talk * about pittbulls and they probably have never owned one themselves. Pittbulls are greta dogs and if certain people would take the time to do some research, they would see that they were bred for their characteristics of loyalty, friendliness, and their dependability. they were once named the "nanny-dogs" because people would ket them watch over their small children and were trusted. PLEASE do not listen to what these idiots say. pitbulls are great dogs and it is all in how they are raised. The same applies to people, if someone was abused verbally as a child then they will more than likely act the same to their partners. Why? because it was something that was instilled in them at a young age.

i have an 85 lb pitbull and he plays with my little sisters so gently and shouls he knock one of them over, he is right there letting them use him to get back up. i would trust him with mine, my babies, and my little sisters lives. he is incredibly protective of the house and i pity the dumb@ss who would try to break in here. they are easy dogs to train and all they need is an owner willing to take the time to break them of any habits (their jaws "locking" on items, such as toys, the remote, your phone) and someone who is going to love them unconditionally. Good luck and i hope this helps. But please, please, please don't listen to anyone negatively talking about pits. But do yourself a favor and do some research to make sure that this is the breed for you.
Try www.hoobly.com good site have a lot of pitbulls
