Answers:
Just leave him behind, as you would your child.NOT
why on Earth would you move where you can't keep your kids..I mean dog? Dogs are not disposable..I am not just being ignorant here..I actually had to live for 3 months in my car, with 6 big hairy dogs, in order to keep my dogs until I could find a place..Then lived with no running water or electricity, in order to keep them all.thankfully, things finally worked out..but if I hadn't done all that I could, I couldn't have lived with myself, or without my dogs.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
You committed to be a forever home for your dog when you adopted him when he was cute..As he is older, it will be hard on him to be deserted by you..You have kept him from having a loving, forever home, and then want to dispose of him. That is why shelters are overflowing! People have no sense of commitment, and pets are considered as toys for the moment..It is a disposable society..
If you don't love him enough to find a way, go to www.ack.org..then go to breeds..then go to chow, and find the breed club..they will have a coordinator for chow rescue..

Better yet, just have him euthenized, so he will never know how you have betrayed him..
Here is a little story for you> http://jimwillis0.tripod.com/tiergarten/.
Give him 2 a friend and ask him/her 2 take care of him!
Call your vet and ask if they know anyone that will take him.
ask 1 of your familymembers to keep him that way u can go and visit him.
Contact the breed rescues for both breeds: The rescues work nationally.

Go here and scrolldown the list until you find the GSDs and Chow-chows. Many breed rescues will take dogs that are 1/2 their breed.

Find a shelter with a "no kill" policy. They will find him a home no matter what. Advertise in your local paper with a picture of your dog. Check with your local Humane Society for more advice!! Good luck!! (fellow dog lover!)
petfinder.com

you can post a picture of him and wait for responses..also try and find a no kill sanctuary..they use foster parents for the dogs..there great, ive adopted from one.
Why can't you take him? This is so tragic that this dog will have to leave his home. Poor doggie. I hope you find someone that will take him that you can trust. Whatever you do, don't give it away "free to good home". Give him to someone you know will give him a good life.
You should have looked for a rental that would allow pets, then you wouldn't have this problem.
you could put a add in the newspaper and see if that works or you could ask a friend to ask around and see if anyone would want him.
I'm sorry you have to leave your pet behind.

Look for a "Rescue" group in your area. These are volunteers who will take in your dog and keep him until adopted by a suitable family. It will ease your worries about him going to a new home.

How can you not take him with you? You're not much of a pet owner are you? Some people shouldn't even have pets, just like some people shouldn't have kids. Usually the same reasons too, the individual involved is a selfish little brat who only cares about themself. Why did you even get the dog in the first place?
Are you kidding me? You wait until two weeks before your move date to take start thinking about a home for your dog? Poor animal. Don't you think that you should have thought about this before you committed to moving somewhere? I bet you have not stopped to think how your dog would feel about this.

"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself."
-Josh Billings (1818 - 1885)

Do you realize there are people who would give anything for their animals? People who would rather live in the street than give up their animals. People who put the expenses of their animals before their own. People who love their animals more than they love themselves. All you had to do was look for somewhere that accepted pets.

You don't deserve to have a dog.
I'm with the last 3 posters, I've also lived in my car, then spend 2 years living in a barn just so I could keep my dogs.

You adopted a dog without commitment, now you want to get rid of him because you're moving. What, dogs can't be moved? You didn't know the new place doesn't take dogs before you arranged to move? You only discovered with two weeks to go that you can't take your dog?

Sheesh!
find out tif any of your friends waant him or you could put a notice up and interveiw these people andfind out what there house hold is like and maybe even ask to see there home
kill it and cook it to eat and u will not forget it until u die
that's very mean but well, you could either give him to a close friend who loves to have a dog, or ask a friend to keep as a home for the dog. than you still pay for the food. etc. but what the hell. whats wrong taking him with you??? a dog also has feeling ya know. sad to hear that you wanna get rid of it. what about your conscience?

  1. Some people are just so rude. Does no one think of how hard it is to have to move and get rid of an animal you have had so long? I mean come on people do you think they are making this decision so lightly. Oh hey lets move and get rid of the dog. I am disabled and have to move into a place now where I am unable to keep my dogs. I have to give them up after 7 years of having them and taking care of them. I cry everyday as the time gets closer to me having to take them to someone else. Some people do not have a choice but to give them up. It is just so wrong for you all to judge when you do not know the exact circumstances of the reason for moving or having to give them up. At least they are trying to find him a home and not just letting him loose in a neighborhood somewhere for him to get hit by a car or something. Think before you speak b/c you don't know. I am totally apauled at the way some of you have responded to this. It is totally ridiculous and disrespectful. I hate that I have to get rid of my dogs and am trying to find them the best home I can and that is all this person is trying to do.

  2. I agree with Amanda, some people are extremely rude, thoughtless and cruel. To those who chose to be homeless rather than find a decent home for their dogs - who took care of the dogs while you were at work? Did you leave them in a sweltering/freezing vehicle or barn all day? Oh, so you probably were homeless and unemployed? If so, how could you afford to feed the dogs or take them to a vet?

You want to bash some poor person who has to give up a dog they love and then expect everyone to think you are soooo much better than that! As if! Don't confuse a selfish/self-serving attachment to a pet with true love - the kind of love that would rather see the dog become part of a stable family than be homeless.

Stop the insanity and complete a reality check, please! Try finding an apartment where dogs are allowed (without having to pay a fee you can't afford). It's difficult enough just to find affordable housing these days - let alone find a place that allows you to have dogs. I know. I am moving out of a house I've owned for 19 years. Had I known this unfortunate turn of events was going to happen, I never would have taken on two dogs. Now I have to move to an apartment and need to find a good home for them. I am against animal abuse and neglect but I'm also against abusing humans who have fallen into hard times. Better to surrender the animal then to drag it out into the streets because you are too selfish to give it up. Homelessness is hard on dogs too!

  3. I agree with these two comments above. Get off your high horses and realize that just, because someone has to get rid of their dog doesn't make them heartless. When they got the dog, I'm sure they weren't thinking, "well I'll get the dog and move in however many months and then just throw him out!" When they got the dog, they loved him and planned to take care of him to the best of their capabilities. Now, they, sadly, can't. Sure there are people out there who don't care about their dogs either way, but every person who tries to find a home for their do, which si obviously why they're commenting about suggestions, must care some what and aren't expecting a bunch of holier than thou people to yell about what a terrible person they are. Also, it's none of your business what reason they have to get rid of the dog. Give helpful responses or GTFO! This is a dog tips blog, not a we're better than you, because we chose to live in our cars just to keep our multiple dogs!
