He normaly eats a whole raw chicken, smothered in blended fresh veggies %26 oatmeal with a few crisp red apples on the side.
Answers:
Try bearnaise sauce with a hint of dill.
A whole raw chicken, huh? If that's true and it's not de-boned, he could have shards of bone stuck in his intestines and could have internal bleeding from a perforated intestine. Eating it raw is also a big dangerous, especially chicken. He could get salmonella from that, just like humans. Why apples? Dogs don't need apples. They eat a variety in their natural state, so I can see the veggies and oatmeal, but apples I'm not so sure about. Try giving him dog food.
It is common for an animal not to want to eat when it's master is away. Leave it out for him if you can so he can come and eat it when he wants to. If he goes more than a couple days then I might call your boss and see if he can help with some suggestions, etc.
Strange diet .and not the best thing for him..but okay.if that is what he usually eats.then just keep giving it to him. (I would make sure the chicken has no bones. He is probably not eating because of separation anxiety. ..and there is little you can do about that. He won't starve to death.
Add one of Iams sauces for dog food. I realize the dog is on a raw diet, but this spices up their food like salsa and ketchup does ours. Good luck!
is this a for real question? that dog eats better than me it seems! i'd prefer my chicken cooked, though.
anyway, when i go out of town, i've been told my dog won't eat for a few days. don't worry about it, he'll eat when he gets hungry.
Oh wow, that dog eats better than most humans! But don't worry too much. Whenever we go away and leave our dog with someone else, he doesn't eat regularly for the first few days because he is confused about why we are gone, where we are, and he's a bit depressed. That's probably what is happening with this mastiff. If this has gone on for more than 3 days and the dog has still barely touched anything, get a hold of your boss, and take action from there based on what he says. Best of luck!
First of all your bosses is crazy feeding his dog chicken exspecially raw. He must be trying to kill it. But anyway try feeding it some cottage cheese. Its probably grieving from its master being gone. Good Luck.
he eats better then most people
Give him a little 'leg of suckered employee'.
I was going to say if you know what's good for you, you'll grill Mr. Bull Mastiff a steak until I saw the whole statement, including whole chicken. Is your boss crazy? Raw chicken and poultry can be harmful to an animal by spreading EColi bacteria. Would he like a raw chicken sitting in his gut at 98.6 degrees, just rotting away,.uggggggggggggg. Secondly, even cooked chicken with bones is not good for a dog. Chicken bones do splint and due to how dogs, and humans are made up of the ears / nose / throat connection, splintered bones can end up lodged in a dog's ear canals and even into the skull area and drive them mad. I saw this happen with my uncle's Collie when I was about 12. He had to be put down by the police, they thought he was rabid because of his actions. Dog food has ingredients dogs need for their coat, skin and bones to be healthy as well as their digestive tracts. Tell the boss if he loves the dog, he should seriously re-think the dog's eating habits..
If you are staying at your bosses home the dog might feel uncomfortable with a stranger in his home. He might also feel that his owner abandoned him. Just leave some food out and leave for a few hours. He might just be scared to eat. My dog is very friendly, but when other people are around he is a totally different dog he is shy and scared. I hope this works for you. If you have any questions my email is sjpavelka122@yahoo.com
I agree it is a strange diet.
The dog is a big boy and he knows when he is hungry, I have Bull mastiffs and they know when they want to eat, A lot of people say it is not good to leave food out but I disagree strongly we have Bull mastiffs and Chihuahuas and we leave food out for all and for the little Chi's we leave a different kind of food and our Bull mastiffs do not bother with it, especially our Male he eats when he gets ready and only when he is ready.
Just put the food out and let him choose, the most important thing is to keep him on a steady diet and not to changed between different types of food or brands, this is especially true with the bigger breeds who can twist their stomach pretty easily.
Good Luck and God Bless
Um, yuck, this poor critter needs some good old dry dog food.
That said, just keep feeding him whatever he is used to eating and when he gets hungry enough he'll eat.
Maybe he needs some exercise. Take him for a walk. Unless he takes you for a walk instead.
If nothing else works don't worry it's just your job on the line. Just kidding!
if he weighs 180 lb. I'd let him eat anything he wanted as long as it wasn't ME.
Just keep offering it to him. He's in a new place surrounded by new people and things. He's homesick most likely but eventually his stomach will get the better of him and he'll eat.
