If we don't let him sleep between us, he'll just stand there and whine until we give it, and we end up not being able to snuggle or anything from the puppy being there!
What's the best way to ween him without him hating us?
Answers:
Dogs are pack animals.
There are really cool beds out there now in the pet stores that are good for big-boned dogs and their joints will be relieved of pressure. Put it near your bed in the bedroom if you have space.
If you can . get him another dog-buddy! Dogs always prefer to sleep in a "pack" it's instinctual.
First off, he won't hate you.
Crate train him. Put him in the crate to sleep at night. Problem solve. If you have not crate trained him, he may make a fuss the first few nights, but don't give in,
After a few weeks, he should be able to sleep out again, without getting on the bed. How about getting him a bed to sleep on in your room.
a dog wont hate you . you can keep him out side for about a week and then try to see if he still does it. you can tell him to be quiet because your not supposed to take and #@$% from a dog because you are supposed to be their leader
sleep with him in his dog house for a while
He will never hate you . Just buy him, or build him, a house OUTSIDE and make him sleep in there.
Does he have his own place to sleep? or is he crate trained? Is he just a puppy or an older dog?
A puppy should be taught (I know - its NOT easy) to sleep in his own bed. He is only allowed with you on YOUR invitation. YOU are the pack leader so you determine who sleeps where.
He will get over it.
WHEN YOU FIND THE ANSWER LET ME KNOW LOL.
I HAVE 2 DOGS AND ME AND MY BF HAVE THEM ON THE BED EVERY NIGHT.
NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE PUSH THEM OFF THEY STILL CREEP BACK ON THE BED WHEN WE GONE BACK 2 SLEEP.THEY HAVE A LOVELY BIG BED WITH A DOUBLE QUILT IN IT BUT THEY WONT KEEP OFF OUR BED.
YOU COULD TRY GETTING A BABY GATE THEN GET HIM A NICE SOFT BED AND PUT IT IN THE HALL HE'LL STILL BE ABLE 2 SEE YOU THEN BUT NOT GET IN THE BEDROOM BUT IF YOU ARE GOING 2 DO THAT THEN DO IT STR8 AWAY B4 HE GET'S OLDER SO HE'S USED 2 IT.
I TRYED THAT BUT IT DIDN'T WORK BECAUSE MINE WAS SO USED 2 SLEEPING WITH ME AND IT WAS IT OK B4 WHEN I WAS ON MY OWN IN A DOUBLE BED BUT MY BF MOVED 3 YEAR'S AGO AND THAT'S WHEN THE FUN STARTED.
DONT WORRY ABOUT HIM NOT LIKING YOU HE WILL ALLWAY'S LOVE YOU THAT'S WHY HE WANT'S 2 BE NEAR YOU ALL THE TIME.
GOOD LUCK
You started all of this by thinking it was no big thing of him sleeping with you.
This is a problem that you won't win at.
If you put the dog out %26 he whines he will bother you %26 neighbers if you have them close by.
You may put up with the whining but will your neighbors?
One thought maybe you could squish him between you %26 he may move away. So when you go to bed don't give him any room between you.
Get a dog bed and a nice soft, blanket and put it right beside your bed. When he gets out just keep putting him back in and tell him to stay. He'll catch on pretty quick and learn to sleep there. Even covering him up with the blanket might help. Good Luck.
Every time he gets on the bed, gently push him off. Do it with the kind of emotion you would use when waving away a fly. You dont make eye contact and say "I'm so sorry baby fly!" do you? If you give it attention while pushing him off he's just more likely to get back up. Be strong and CONSISTENT! If it means shutting your bedroom door and getting some ear plugs for a few days then you have to. But this could turn into a big problem if you dont stop it now.
Don't give in.
If you give in once he knows you'll give in again. You don't have to worry about him liking you, he already loves you, otherwise he wouldn't want to snuggle. If he whines, just put him outside your room or in his crate. He might whine some more, but eventuall, if you keep firm, he'll realise that YOU'RE the boss, not him. And then he'll be happier, because dogs like knowing who the boss is. You'll also be happier because your dog will be listening to you more.
Try taking him to obedience classes, that always does wonders for a dogs disposition and happiness.
You two can snuggle and let puppy have the edge of the bed. There`s always room for three, no need to banish him from his comfort zone. As u can tell, I love dogs, so I shouldn`t even try to answer ur question, `cause the dog will win everytime. However, u might try getting him his own bed and placing it near urs and be consistent in putting him in it every night until he gets the idea that is where he is to sleep. Good luck.
Try buying him his own bed and let him get used to using it during the day. Add some of his favorite toys in his bed to let him know that's his. Also, it can be very hard to break the habit for all of us once its started but be firm and stick to your guns, maybe even put something with your scent on it in his bed also so "you" can still be next to him. Try putting his bed on the floor down at the foot of your bed, so he is still close to you. This is how I broke my dogs habit, and it worked well. It did take 1 night of consistency of saying "this is your bed here," I even put some treats in his bed for him to slowly chew on.
I have a golden retriever and the way I trained him not to come onto the bed was to crate train him. Whenever your dog comes onto the bed, you push him off and tell him "NO". If he doesn't listen, stick him into a crate (or if you don't have a crate, maybe a place behind a baby gate or something.) Your dog WILL whine, and will need to get use to it. But eventually he'll find another place to sleep. If you want to really be nice, get him a big ol' dog bed thing. Good Luck, and DON'T GIVE IN! You're the "leader".
Get him a heated dog bed, such as these> http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/na.
Put a worn (not washed) tee-shirt in it..Begin by putting it where he likes to nap, and by evening, he will accept it near your bed..If you want him out of the bedroom, just gradually move it further.
Welcome to my world. Let me know if anybody gives you the right answer. I have 3 Labs. Guess where they sleep?
DOGS DONT HATE, PEOPLE DO. DOGS NEED A LEADER AND THEY DEVELOP BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS WHEN THEY DONT HAVE ONE. DONT BE WISHY WASHY. CREAT TRAIN HIM . THIS BECOMES HIS HAPPY PLACE. A DEN. NEVER DISAPLINE HIM THERE. TOYS WATER PILLOWS. IF HE WHINES TAKE HIM OUT TO PEE AND RIGHT BACK IN.. NO FUSS NO CONVERSATION.LIGHT OUT. BE FIRM AND THIS DOG WILL LOVE YOU FOR BEING HIS ALPHA .. DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE. THINK LIKE A DOG.. :)
